Under bonnet help

Hi all I have a 2006 e63 with approx 130ks on the clock. The other day after some spirited driving I noticed it had a loud nock knock knock sound which seemed like it coming from under the inlet manifold. Fired the car up today and the noise has drastically reduced and can hear it if put my head nder the car now. I'm not talking about the usual rattle of a cold start either. Don't really want too drive the car incase I cause serious internal. Any ideas as too waht it could. I have tried uploading a video but says format invalid. Any advice appreciated. Cheers, Dave

Sorry for posting twice!! After warming the car up and revving too about 3000/3500 rmp with bonnet I have noticed the car seems too have an air leak somewhere. It sounds like there's air coming out from back of motor on drivers (right) hand side. Last a about a second or 2 and then it revs fine

Have a look at the back of the right hand cylinder head. You may find there is a PCV fitting there that feeds exhaust gas from the crank case back to the inlet manifold. If thats broken/split - check the casing as well as any hoses, it's an easy fix. FYI - any vacuum leak usually results in a misfire and that may be have been the knocking that you heard.

Get you car scanned for codes and you'll know much more. Until you do that and look at the live data as well, we're all guessing.

That was my first thought but was worried about camshaft adjusters etc. Thanks for the advice will get it scanned and post the codes.
