Oil warning - sort of urgent

This has been covered in another thread but people stopped posting to that so it's getting a new one: immediately after taking delivery of my 2003 E500 I had a warning pop up on the dash saying that I need to reduce the level of oil.

The dealer said it's ok as they just changed the oil and they probably put too much. So, I took the car back in and the dealer let some oil out. That didn't seem to help as the warning came back in the exact same spot when driving home (it also comes in roughly in the same spot when driving to the dealership in the morning). They took it back and changed the sensor - same result. Brought it back today and they said they had to reset some values in the computer - well, that didn't help either! Going back tomorrow... Any ideas what can cause this - as I said, the warning comes on for the first time after driving roughly the same distance...

Thanks,
Sergiu

I just came back from having my oil changed and I spoke to the technician about the oil level.

The dealer can directly connect their computer to your car computer and the sending unit. They can tell you EXACTLY how much oil you have in there. The sending unit measures the height of the oil level in millimeters.

My diesel (CDI '05) measured 54 mm after they changed the oil and put in 7 liters of oil.

So......

If they can read your sending unit and it is okay then there could be a faulty connection somewhere in the system that acts up intermitently.

Hi Spartan,
Do you think they only charged you for seven litres, or did they actually only put in seven litres?

I say this because the replacement amount should be seven point five (7.5) litres? Which coincidentally is the same as the E500.

Our manuals will be numbered differently but you will find the correct information under Technical Data.

Bye for now,
John
