Question Any way to get in E320 trunk???

Thought I'd bring my basket case over here, see if we can figure anything out.

I desperately need to get in the trunk. There is no power to anything in the back of the car. I can't get in with the key. What now?

Do you have the rear seat ski pass through? Idk if you can remove the rear seat panel. May be access through there.

Twist the trunk key all the way to the lock position, push the lever forward then turn to unlock and pull the lever to open trunk. You can try to alternate the order of those 3 things to try and reset the latch position.May take a few tries to figure out the coordination.
I got an E350 for cheap because the PO couldn’t get into the trunk and battery was dead, that’s all I did. The remote is useless

There is no lock, no barrel. It's missing or drilled out.

I'm trying, but it's complicated like everything else associated with this car. I have a Snap-On scanner.

hmmm if there is nothing there to turn the internal latch then this would be my last resort…

If the battery hasn’t been dead too long You might be able to put a trickle charger on the front terminals under the hood by fuse box…leave it on for a full day and hope you get enough juice to be able to use the remote to open the trunk.

I tried this once before but the battery was too far gone in my case.

edit: didn’t see your pics, 4v might be too low to take a charge but you never know…I also don’t have aux battery

Both batteries are new, showing 12.8 volts. Car cranks over really strong.

No fold down, no pass through. What kind of sedan has neither? I did take the seat and insulation out to check. There's a lot of metal to cut going that way.

I just wonder with a good battery in the trunk what is stopping the driver door release switch from working? It always worked before when there was 12 volts.

You can have the trunk locked out in Valet mode, means someone had the mechanical key and put in the cylinder and turned it disabling the driver door switch.

Thanks. Mine has no lock, it's gone. Not sure if it's in "valet mode".

Sorry if you already stated…but why won’t the remote work if the car has full power? Maybe it needs physical assistance while you press it?

Last resort I would try and finagle the inside of the missing tumbler to pop whatever the key normally would. Make sure the lever is fully forward and with a curved screw driver or something unlatch it. A brand new latch would be a couple hundred bucks, I’d just break it if desperate

since parts we’re removed maybe show us what is actually still there?

I don't know. The remote did not work when we got the car. I had to remove the siren from behind the drivers fender and replace the fuse in the trunk. Then my door locks and trunk release worked great.

I have the battery on a trickle charger now so main battery is at about 12.6 volts. I just checked it out tonight. I hook up under the front passenger side carpet.

To recap:
-Nothing in the rear of the car works. No tail lights, rear turn signals, trunk release. Headlights work, power seats work, central locking works. Battery warning/visit workshop is on all the time. Doesn't really seem to make a difference if the aux battery is in the car or not. Nothing changes when I install it.
-Car cranks over, no start.
-Key fob does nothing.
-Codes listed in previous post. There may be more codes but I'm a novice with the scanner and MB.

All of these issues started at the same time. The car was driving around normally before although the battery warning has always been on.

when you first got the car, was there a lock cylinder? Or you never noticed? Sounds like the “rear sam” is not communicating for that many rear problems. Big problem is getting into the trunk without a lock cylinder, since you haven’t posted a pic, I would call a locksmith that has a borescope because you have a hole where the lock cylinder would be, right?

and the remote did you ever test the batteries with a volt meter?

Thanks for replying. The rear tumbler was drilled out right before I received the car. I don't know why, that was a poor decision. Yes, there just a hole there now. I'll see about getting a little camera.

it probably time to upgrade to a smartphone, camera included! 📷📲
but if you mean an inspection camera amazon has many at different prices. I went with a Teslong model with 2 lenses

At this point just bust out the tail lights and you should be able to stick your hand in there to reach the manual release inside.

Not quite there yet.

The car was just towed to my sons school workshop. It's a very well equipped shop with a great instructor who has many years of import experience. We'll see what happens there.
