Fob lock/unlock works key insert sets alarm off

I have a 05 w211 E500 sedan. I recently changed the door handle on the inside of the drivers door. In doing this I completely removed the panel, unplugging all connections, and replaced the handle on the bench. After reinstalling the door panel, car started fine.
I realized soon after that I had reconnected all but neglected to hook the new handle to the latch release line. Removed the door panel again (did not unplug anything this time), hooked up latch line, reinstalled door panel.
Inserted the key into the ignition and nothing happened. Removed the key and reinserted. Alarm sounds for about 30 seconds. Siren sounds pretty sick.
Remote lock/unlock works fine but doesn't turn the alarm off. After the alarm stops I open the car with the emergency key and the alarms starts sounding again. However, this time locking with the fob stops the alarm.
Unlocking/locking with the fob doesn't cause the alarm to sound.
Note: I can see the red led blinking on the fob when it is inserted. It causes the alarm to sound only after removing the key and reinserting it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
