Please could I ask some gurus to listen to this noise at startup and give me your thoughts? The noise is there at startup, but once it is going or revs over 1500, it dissipates, and when you come to an idle after a drive, it seems slightly more clanky than usual, but only slightly. I have not yet put it on the lift to have a good listen underneath, but for the moment, with the bonnet open, it feels like it is coming from closer to the firewall than the radiator and somewhat deeper than the turbo. I thought it might have been running slightly rough last week, but I only noticed it this morning, and it was obvious. Everything on the car is in good condition, except I have a glow plug light (managed to snap a glow plug during the replacement process), which results in two/three cranks every morning before it starts, but then it's happy after that.
I took it to the dealer this afternoon enroute home and asked for a rough idea from them, and they guessed either a turbo issue or a cracked flywheel??? I do not think it is the turbo, as it was replaced eight years ago, and I feel like it should be making the noise throughout the rev range?, whereas this noise is only at startup and initial low revs.
It is on 230,000 kilometres and has been driven in Zimbabwe all of its life by my Dad (bought new) and now myself.
