Bi Xenon headlight bulb
Bi Xenon headlight bulb
Greetings,
Recently one of my low beam bulbs on my 2008 e350 has turned blue, compared to its usual white color, and then all together stopped working, so I guess it’s time for more 3rd owner maintenance. I have been trying to scour the internet for answers but haven’t reached a true verdict.
From searching up my vin # I have confirmed that my car comes with the Bi-Xenon light bulbs from the factory. Lots of threads say that the w211 chassis requires the H7 bulbs but others say it’s the Phillips D2SC1. I could easily head to my local Mercedes Benz dealer and ask their parts department but who doesn’t wanna save a few bucks right?
Any and all help is appreciated!
Thanks

Your car will most likely have the BiXenon globes for the low beam (D2SC1) and the H7 for the high beam. The Bixenon turning blue/pink in color is them signalling the end of their life. I've changed my low beams once in 15 years but never the high beams.
You can buy the D2s online. Look for Phillips brand but be wary of counterfeit parts. I had to buy mine out of the UK - there was a reputable online seller there at 50 or 60% of the cost to me here in Australia. Many of the aftermarket globes had a bad reputation and the name brands stood out but your research will probably highlight that. Dodgy D2s can triggger fault codes and be very painful and expensive. From memory, I'm fairly confident the OE globes were Phillips. Be aware that the bixenon globes are high voltage so disconnect your battery before you change them.

My 2003 W211 used D2S lamps. If you have a separate ballast and projector headlamps, they are D2S. D1S lamps have the ballast attached to the bulb. D2R bulbs are used for reflector headlamps and will not fit into a D2S mount. Mercedes used Phillips, Hella, or Osram xenon HID lamps as factory fit. Sylvania is identical to Osram. HID lamps are sold by light color temp or Kelvin. Mercedes used 4000K-4100K which is a white light. 3000K is more yellow, 6000K is daylight blue. As they age, the color can shift slightly. So if you want them to match exactly, buy a pair. As mentioned, stick with the brand names from reliable sellers.
