4matic on CDI?
I know that this has been a topic of discussion. But I just ran across this article saying that in 2005 the CDI will come with 4matic. Is this true?

If this is the case, then I bought my car too early. But, I was told, by not a very reliable source, that the inline 6 cylinder engine would not allow the front differential and front drive axels to fit under, around and in the oil pan.
I am sure that if Mercedes wants to make a 4-matic diesel they can, but since all the models we have here are in Europe first, wouldn't one think that there should already be one in Europe if it is coming out that soon here?
If one comes out next, I think it will be the E400 CDI RWD. That is already over there for a while now.

I cringed when I read the source of this information was Edmunds. I remember when they first reviewed the 320CDI, they referred to it as a V6?
It is possible I suppose that this time they might well be correct, BUT it seems a very strange thing to do.
The in-line straight six is due to be replaced very shortly by a V6 diesel and I would have thought that if a 4Matic was in the pipe-line then that is when it will appear?
Strange things do happen, and Mercedes-Benz might decide to build the vehicle, but as already been stated the in-line engine is longer than the V6. This has also stopped it from being used in the ML and it is being replaced in a matter of months.
Regards,
John

jesMB reports that the new V6 diesel engine will be in production in June 2005 and the 4matic CDI in production commencing September 2005. Usually a reliable source.

That works for me. The next question is.... What, or who is jesMB?
