2008 E350 whining sound with HVAC on, follows RPMs
Hi everyone,
Would love to see if anyone has any experience with a strange sound that I’ve been getting.
It sounds like a whining/whirring sound that follows engine RPMs when the HVAC is on. Also happens if the AC is off and only the fan is running. Seems to go away when HVAC is totally shut off and seems to be louder/more noticeable when it rains.

Great find. I have not experimented yet to see if it is the AC pulley since the sound has been occurring less often lately. Not sure if it’s because it has gotten warmer but I’m going to keep listening for it. It is tough because I cannot consistently replicate the noise

Yeah, i hate the noise. Sounds like a vacuum when accelerating. Maybe the extra load of the AC cause powersteering to whine… idk. I also have a buzzing noise at idle too when hvac is on. Do you?

No buzzing on mine but I do feel like the engine is a little whine-y when you accelerate.
Planning on getting under the car to poke around as I’ve also got a slow leak coming from the front of the engine and I wonder if it might be power steering fluid.
