W211 Power steering issues
Hello,
I've been dealing with power steering issues for quite some time. I've got a e320 cdi (om648) and since the time the power steering failed completely i've been trying to fix it. At first i've just tried to change the power steering fluid and it helped a bit, the power steering would sometimes work especially if the car was left sitting on full lock. Then i've went to a mechanic and his diagnosis was that the hydraulic steering pump was the problem (the symptoms also pointed to it as the steering made terrible screeching noise when turning and especially when on full lock). After replacing the steering pump (also replaced all the pulleys, belt and the water pump) the issue seemed to be fixed for quite some time. The first time it failed again was during a drive, whilst previously the power steering would be gone before the startup. At first it happened very rarely, only a few times, however now the power steering shuts off on every longer drive (5-10km). I have also noticed that the power steering always works properly when the car is cold however after it warms up the power steering disables (This would explain why I didn't experience the power steering problems previously as it was winter and the weather was cold meaning longer times for the car to warm up).
Has anybody dealt with the same issues or got any ideas what could be wrong?
