Resync old FOB with new EIS?

Resync old FOB with new EIS?
2005 e320 CDI

Is it possible? I ordered a new fob thinking the old one was broken but I had to replace my EIS. Now the old key doesn’t work (new one does, obviously), the mechanic at MB seemed to think I could resync my old fob to the new EIS, but I can’t find any info on it. Thanks!

I actually had the EIS replaced by a mechanic shop that specializes in German and foreign cars. I guess they were able to do it despite not being a dealership, so I’m not sure if the dealer would even do anything about it?
