Fuel System Cleaner in E 500
Should I be using a fuel system cleaner every now and then in my 2004 E 500?
Or will they make no difference at all?
I use to use it in my Lexus GS 300 and noticed a difference.

Just my humble opinion- but I run the 93 octane ExxonMobil and seems to get it all clean.
Additive cleaners were discuraged by my Lexus and MB dealers respectively.
While some claim that all petro is from the same source, and to some extent that is true, it has been, for whatever reason, a good self cleanning fuel. Not scientific just my personal experiance.
We have a Chev Suburban and I noticed it was a tad slower starting and eventually the gas gauge was reading an error (Full when 1/2 full) . Turned out my teenage son was understandably buying the cheapest fuel he could find since Chev didn't require Premium grade.
I made him run it on 3-4 tanks of ExxonMobil and it cleared up.
And no I don't own or work for the company.

I was told it is good to change fuel station once in awhile as each company has different additives/cleaners. The big 3 here are BP, Mobil and Shell. I mostly run BP but once in awhile I would fill up with Mobil or Shell.

All major brands of gasoline are the same. As a matter of fact, they do share/sell to one another at the refinery level. However, the last thing dropped into the mix is the detergent package that each company formulates for themselves, and chooses to add or not. Once that is added to the fuel it is their brand of gasoline and is not supposed to be sold to a station that is branded differently.
I would have to assume that Exxon & Mobil sell the same gas since their merger. Right now Exxon/Mobil gasoline in my area contain 10% alcohol, and the pumps have an additional label to that effect on them.
Regular use of a known high detergent gas should eliminate the need for additional fuel system cleaners (which MB reccomends against).
