2007 E550 sloppy power train/driveline
2007 E550 4matic
The previous owner had staggered rims and tires on this car and the problem was the rears and the fronts were spinning at different rates. We corrected this issue by changing everything back to stock but damage was done and there is play in the driveline. I would like someone tell me the most likely components that are now screwed. My guess is the transfer case and rear diff , that seems obvious ?The last place I took it didnt want to mess with it so now im taking it to someone who works on mercedes....supposedly.
Basically while driving about 30mph when you let off the gas you can hear a clunk and feel the car lurch. Does this as low speeds also like when creeping along in a drive thru. The transmission shifts fine.
I feel like this should be an easy diagnosis and repair?

Sounds like engine mount to me. But you should do a transmission adaptation reset too. I have used the youcanic scanner on the past and it can reset the transmission adpation values. I think those two things will solve your issue.

To some extent every drive line component experienced abuse from the previous owner's clueless and boneheaded modification, but probably one component took the brunt of it. A clunk when letting off the gas is likely the backlash of the worn component. It could be the transfer case, the propeller shafts, the differentials, or the axle CVs. Putting it on a lift and inspecting where the slop is occurring might help isolate which component is mostly at fault.

Im betting on the transfer case.
