First Significant Disappointment (For Me)

Well, I now have 14K+ miles on my '04 E500 4MATIC, which I purchased in late May. Many East Coast road trips (just finished another one for T-Day).

Recently, my in-dash CD changer stopped working. It will open, insert, and eject CDs, but will not play any of them. The single-unit CD above the COMAND works fine.

It's going in the shop Thursday for a Service B, and I asked them to look at this as well.

Question: I'm past 12K miles, but below 1 year of ownership. Will this be covered?

Sorry about your problem but it will definitely be covered for up to four years. Unforunately, the COMAND system and associated electronics are not covered by the Extended Warranty. My dealer rep that sold me the warranty, said there have been a lot of complaints about that significant omission considering how many problems people have had with the system but it doesn't appear like MB will be doing anything about COMAND repairs past four year point or 60,000 miles.

Following up on this issue:

Mercedes-Benz Manhattan installed a new 6-CD changer gratis, and detailed the car for free to boot. I'm satisfied.

Sounds like they took good care of you. Now, hope that's your only problem for many more miles! I got a free detail when I had a "very small" oil leak from the oil pressure sensor earlier this year and that's been my only problem in 14K miles after initial delivery when car had a faulty COMAND display; so I've been happy. They must do those free details to try to "keep us happy"!
