Laser parking aid

I just thought I should post one last thread and tell you how much I like this item. Although the folks who have parktronic might not find this too useful, here it goes:

I got as a gift one of those LASER pointing things that mounts on the ceiling of the garage and is motion activated. It can use both batteries and ac power. I always used a ball hanging from a string to know when to stop my car when driving in to the garage, but I have gotten to really like this "LASER."
You can set the pointer to be on any spot. O chose the steering wheel. Even with it tilted up or down it is not enough of a variance to hit anything, plus, I am the primary driver of this thing!

Here are some pictures:

How about a picture of the "thingy" mounted.

What activates it?

How do you keep someone from getting a beam in the eye?

Edit note: (for Oslo)
Beans would be more serious (maybe)...but the "thingy" should run out of "beans" before it runs out of "beams". :p

OK, when I get home I will post some more pics. But I did not want to take pictures of my unfinished garages . I have been at my house for 4 years and I have just accepted that I will not be doing this project since I plan to build another house to my specs in the next couple of years.

But anyway. It mounts on the ceiling and is is both AC and battery powered. This model has a motion sensor and turns on any time that there is heat moving in the garage. If the car is not in it and you are walking around in the garage it will turn on. This does not bother me at all, but it might bother others. I think that it could mount in the wall too (if that is where you had an outlet). They have an adjustable beam that you can turn and aim to your liking.

I saw that there was one on the Sky Mall magazine that has two beams and takes a signal from the garage opener or from the optical safety eyes. I think that that site is www.skymall.com. I am sure all of you have seen that magazine in the airplanes. Just remember, this is not the model that I have (I did not buy this one). It was a gift. But I think that if you only buy one for 1 garage it ends up costing about $25.00. The others in the magazine I am mentioning are more.

I was wondering if it was worth posting a new thread with this, but I guess it was,

Neat. There here for about $10 less.

But, it needs your opener's light socket and you lose the light.

Ebay's got the one that SAguirre seems to describe.

Looks great, especially if you can hard-wire it.

Well, I can't say that I care much if they do. It is a very strong LASER, but if you are stupid enough to look straight into it by looking straight up into it, then you deserve the discomfort.

I am thinking that the other models that hook up to the garage door openers will turn off and stay off hence eliminating this risk. But I don't have kids and I have not asked the kids in my neighborhood to look at it either.

It is very subtle and it is hard to notice on the floor if the garage is empty.

Hope you feel better!

YEP!! its them allright.

The one on e-bay is the one that was gifted to me. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it can not be adjusted from left to right (just front to back). Since I have single car garage and one double car garage, I am thinking about buying the double one pointed out here and moving the single beam one to my single garage.

Also, the double beam one is the one that links to the GDOs sensors instead of using a motion sensor.

Thanks for looking this up, I will not post pictures since these links shows them.
