E350 W211 washer cowl drain hose connection at fender
I am repairing a friend's 2006 E350 sedan. The rubber seal at the base of the windshield was garbage, so I replaced the washer cowl (p/n 2118301213) and all the fasterners. I have never worked on a W211, so I'm hoping someone can answer one nagging question about the large (approximately 1" o.d.) rubber drain hose that runs from the center grate in the cowl to a grommeted hole in the right (passenger's) fender near the cabin air filter. The hose from the old cowl just emptied directly into this hole. There was no sign that the discharge end of the hose connected to anything. Is this configuration correct? Or did some drain tube inside the fender fall off? I removed the inner fender liner today but no joy, since the section where the drain hose exits the engine compartment is walled off. I poured a cup of water into the drain hose pushed through the fender grommet and the water spilled out behind the front tire and also through some perforated metal near the center of the car behind the front doors. Any insight from someone who has done the cowl replacement would be appreciated. Thank you.
