So all you do is just hold down 2 or 3 to get the mirrors to go down and then go back 1 to switch back to normal.

And yes, the convenience entry was notorious for breaking, I think they said that if you put your weight on the steering wheel while it was moving when getting out, the extra weight would break the dogbone gear. That's why eBay sells that replacement part. Better to just shut it off so there's one less thing to fix. My rear window shade has been broken for about 10 years too, worked initially then it gets stuck and needs help going up/down. Better to just leave it down than risk it breaking when it's up and then you can't the rear when it's dark out.
Just to mention, sister's 2008 E350 has the side mirror reverse feature working. In fact, I learned how to use it on the W211, and also adjusted it for our 2014 E350 and 2015 ML350. All of them work w/o issues so far (knock on wood).

mind sharing the technique or are you saying you use the memory method?

Nope. I saw a post about checking for the IR using a phone camera and confirmed it was transmitting something. Don't remember if I mentioned it before but I also noticed the two keys are different so maybe the one that's not working is either the wrong key or a defective replacement? I didn't notice before because they are both metal cases that look very similar but either way, it's strange that the defective key can unlock the car and the physical key works to lock/unlock. Did the cars come with two slightly different keys originally?

funny you mentioned this. my 2008 also came with two slightly different key fobs but it's unknown to me if this was intended from the factory.
HOWEVER both keys start the car (haven't confirmed if the other keyless buttons work since the battery is dead). additionally, the metal keyway's "ridges" inside the fob matches exactly!
i suspected one of them is a replacement but after hearing you also have two different keys removes this suspicion.

Here what I recall
Doors closed
Key in the ignition, position 2
Press brake and select reverse
Select passenger side mirror on the door switch
Adjust mirror as needed
Press M, then number to store along with your personal setting. Recall that setting will store ALL your favorite positions: seat , steering wheel position, and side view mirror .
Return door switch mirror setting back to neutral
Once stored, select parking. Side view mirror should return to previous position
Now test. Engine ON, press brake, select reverse, wait for mirror to stored position.

Do not recall if W211 has settings per key. Recent models have a different settings per key

OK, this is making me very curious now. Here are some pictures of my keys. The one on the right is the one that works for everything and the one on the left only unlocks.

You can see the slight differences like the curved bottom edge where the black plastic button area meets the metal, the manual key release switch being on the opposite side and the key that works for everything has a "U" marking on the manual key. Otherwise, they both look like original/official keys to me.

I'd love to hear from original owners about what their keys are like! Obviously, would love to figure out why the left key doesn't work for everything too.

I think I tried something like this but there are several specific steps that don't always match up depending on what guide I read and it didn't work for me. I just found the section in the manual and will reference this that and what you provided next time I try. Thanks!

Sisters 2008 W211 is not close by, but the original key looks as follows

Obvious differences are the round panic button, and mechanism for the battery (sliding board).

The second key is not original, but bought from the MB dealer and looks like yours. That was the next generation keyfob. Similar to the one for the 2014 W212 and 2015 W166 we have.

Thanks for sharing! That key looks more like the one on the left in my pictures but obviously not the same panic button. When you say the one bought from the dealer was more like mine, which one? The one on the right?

Makes me wonder if the keys don't actually come with specific cars and maybe the dealer programs them and has them cut?

Whatever the case, it probably means both my keys are “authentic” but one is just defective and needs to be replaced?

The previous owner used silicone glue to "fix" the deteriorating windshield cowl and did not attempt to do a clean job at all so it was looking like a half assed drain gutter job done by a right handed blind person with two left hands. So got a replacement (PN: 2118300513) and installed it after hours of scraping all the goop off. Anyone who has done his job probably noticed the sides of the cowl have separate covers that attach and complete the seal at the lower corners of the windshield and hood hinges. Well, one of mine has crumbled and I need to get a replacement for that too but I'm having a tough time finding or even confirming the right part. The PN I got directly off mine is: 2118311544 (L, for left). Anyone got a source for this? Thanks!

I found out one of my wheels was cracked and poorly repaired by the previous owner. Originally planned on replacing wheels with something from E63 AMGs but after some more research, I found they are very expensive, even used and worst of all, still heavy and cast. I always assumed incorrectly that they were forged or at least flow formed to be worthy of AMG but I guess not. Needless to say, I’m not paying a premium for used, heavy and cast wheels with a fancy badge so I searched the aftermarket options. Konig wheels were never previously on my radar but after comparing the options, these were the best I could come up with.

Not the style or brand I had in mind but I’m very happy with the decision and results. I wanted the same OEM size (18x8.5) with slightly more aggressive offset (32 vs OEM 38) and lighter (>19lbs vs OEM ~30lbs). Losing around 10lbs per corner is the greatest upgrade and very noticeable improvement in braking, handling, comfort and acceleration. I saw the OEM sport wheels listed at 25lbs but when I weighed mine, they all came in around 30lbs so that spec out there is wrong for whoever is interested. 28lbs if being generous based on possible scale and other discrepancies. Either way, glad to have those anchors off the car.

As it was said earlier in the thread, the tilting mirror on reverse was disabled on 2008 cars. Looks like you're in California. If so, and want to get that enabled and don't have access to Xentry, let me know and I'll help.
