Hidden menu in COMAND

There is a hidden menu in COMAND that gives a lot of informations about your car. I haven't seen it myself due to a temporaray limitation in mobility, but my wife checked it, and confirmed "yes, it works", and she found that the software version was 15/2004 (Should be the latest version)

Here is how: Mute + (phone hangup (EU) End (US)) + Serv and hold all three buttons for 8 seconds.

So guys, let us know how we can use this "feature"

Can't wait to try this out. How did you find it? I wonder if this is the same one I got into once but couldn't figure out how to get back in. Can you change the language of the Navigation voice with this (e.g. English (UK) to give a woman with a British accent)?

It works. Nothing special, version codes for everything. Has some fault codes too, for voltage and temp for the electronics. Can also reset different software settings, etc. It does tell you what brand/make COMAND you have, which is good.

On pict 5, I can see that your DVD drive is actually a Fujitsu Ten drive. They are a huge manufactor of car entertainment.

There are a few options to reset things in amongst this. I'm afraid I am too much of a coward to try!!!

KHAUG: I just tried it, and it does work in the '05 CDI. press MUTE first and hold, then while MUTE is pressed, push END and SERV at the same time. Hold all three buttons in for at least 8 seconds. You will then enter the engineering main menu. I've been too chicken to make any changes. I'll let someone else be the guinie pig!

Thanks Levind. The good news: It worked. The bad news: While paging through the many crytic options and assiduously trying not to change anything, evidently I did - my trip odo reverted to what it had read the last time I manually reset it and my clock de-synchronized itself, evidently displaying Stuttgart time. Also, a number of odd entries appeared in my Nav prior destination list.

I've now gotten the clock back to displaying the correct time. I wasn't able to recover the trip odo reading, so I simply reset it to zero. I'm hoping nothing else got changed that I haven't discovered yet!

USE THESE SCREENS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

What can I say!!!

Everyone knows where I stand on this issue.

Hi Oslo,
You are 'THE MAN'

Everyone that has DVD in motion is advised to carry out this quick check straight away

Hey Harley me old mate what do you reckon about this?

On a serious note though I am sorry to hear that this might be causing problems. Do not do it. (that's activating DVD in motion)

Take care,
John

To my credit, I never watch movies while driving. Only when i first got it, while i was in drive thru. Passengers only. Main reason I got it was to burn DVD MP3s.

Do you guys think that there is some setting in there that will enable watching DVDs while in motion? If it can cut it off, why can't it put it on you know..

Heh, I'm sure. But now that I screwed it up, I'll take my losses in fear of resetting something else

If you check back on last weeks messages, I am sure you will find similar questions, then go back another week, and you will find similar questions, then go back another.......##

Trust me this question has been asked on the odd occassion.

John

If I knew, I wouldn't dear to tell it here. Risking my friendship with John just isn't worth it. On the other hand I must repeat that it’s not illegal to have DVD In Motion enabled in Europe. The EU Commission has issued a recommendation, and several manufactures has decided to follow this recommendation. I am not a great follower of regulations, especially if they are made to protect myself. But in this case, it’s not a question about what can happen to me, but a question what can happen to other innocent victims. I have the DVD In Motion activated in my car, but I can say that I NEVER used it while driving, The only reason for me to do this was out of curiosity. So to all you guys that are looking for a way to enable DIM (new abbreviation for DVD In Motion): Let it be!

Hi Oslo,
That is a DIM attitude, hopefully friendships are greater than stoopid DVD's.

On my Sprinter I watch DVD films regularly when my chauffeur is gainfully employed driving me from point a, to point b.

I have just purchased a DVD upgrade for the Sprinter which will activate TMC

Sorry to hear about your back, and hopefully your sinusitis has cleared up.

DIM works for me,

Very kind regards,
John the humble

What about us poor '03 owners?

What is the secret handshake that will allow us ('03 E320 - non-nav) to see the hidden screens? None of the previously published techniques seem to work for me. I would like to see the true oil level at least.

Jim

By now (1 week after this thread was posted) I have received three emails from comand owners who managed to disable their DVD/TV in motion just by going into the service menu and changing some of the settings...

who is next?
