Dry and Brittle, what???

Today while cleaning all the leaves, acorns and twigs out of my engine bay, I noticed a large hole in one of the large diameter plastic vents tubes (?) that run on both sides of the Mercedes dust cover. Given the age of the car, not surprised how brittle the flexible plastic "accordian" section of the tube is. The opposite side is very brittle too but less advanced.

Am I correct in thinking these large diameter vents provide fresh air into the cabin? I say this because each seems to be attached to the backside of the front grill. Thanks.

Normal, you can get replacements all over the place. Amazon, where ever. And no, they do not at all provide interior air. That is engine air, and it is before the filters.

@Bounder
the interior air intake filter and inlet is located in the back left of the engine compartment as you are standing in front of the car. 10mm plastic nut, lift cover, pull and replace activated charcoal filter. Check your auxiliary battery while you are in there; if the main battery fails, that auxiliary battery is the only source of power for your brake-by-wire SBC system.
