seeking help retrofitting facelift steering wheel with paddles

Hello everybody, basically I bough a facelift steering wheel with paddles and I'm planning to retrofit it to my 2003 e220 cdi.

From what I've read I need to swap the steering column from a facelift one and change the wiring harness.

Questions that bug me:

1. Do all steering columns from a facelift car work? For example I will attach two photos. One has a part number A171 540 38 45 which costs 80 euro and the other has A 171 540 64 45 which costs 60 euro. Does it need to specifically support paddles or is this something you code out later in the SCM?

2. I've already coded a, m, w, s on my egs52 and they work absolutely as intended using the tiptronic. Wil the work the same way with the paddles? I've read that they only work on M mode. Also do I need to code other modules or something else in the egs52?

3.Do I just color match the wiring harness cables or is these something I should be aware of. Do I need to remove the battery when removing the airbag?

4.Lastly, is it possible to get SRS codes after swapping the wheel and if so why?

Thanks indeed would be very thankful if you can be in help guys!
