Starter Engine cost
Starter Engine cost
Hello everybody
I recently had to get my starter engine changed as my car didn't start sometimes. I go to a real mom and pop shop with 3 generations working on the same cars.
But I got the feeling something was wrong, this time and also the last time I was there I noticed a lot less activity.
Then I received my bill and it was 440 euro (390 for the starter engine). I was a bit shocked because I had expected it to be a lot less.
When I look online for similar Hella starter engines I see them in the 100 euro range.
I don't want to jump to conclusions but now I'm wondering if they overcharged me. So I'm hoping someone more knowledgable than me can give me some info.
I'm located in Belgium btw.
Thanks!

First, it's a starter motor, not engine.
But your concern, depends on where they buy their parts, and it's true that same part can be cheaper on somewhere else.
Then there's a hourly rate, how much that is and how time consuming job it is to change the starter. It all adds up
