Dyno Mode

I'm going on a track day later this week and want to turn off all the driver aids. Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to do this on a W211 E320 CDI ?

Thanks in advance guys

I'll tell you how I do it in my 05' E55.

1) Turn key to the position right before it cranks the car (position 2 I think).
2) Scroll computer menu until it's on the screen that shows the speed.
3) Press the button near the speedometer that resets the trip ticker 3 times rapidly.
4) Now scroll through the submenu of the "speed" menu until you see the dynometer subscreen. Chose dynomenter mode.

You are now in dynomode which disables both traction control and ABS.

I have done this myself too. I had a bit of a hard time getting it activated again, but it was not that hard to deactivate the ESP and the ABS.

To activate it again you need to switch the ignition on and then off. I don't know exactly what I did, but just remember that it might not come back on again in the way you would expect it to..

Also, when you put the dyno. mode on you will have two malfunctions. One is the ABS and the other will be the ESP. They are not red malfunctions, but the system will warn you about having these aides off. Also, the ABS light will stay on as long as the system is deactivated.

I hope this helps too,

Steve-

Do you know if entering dyno mode also disables the 4-matic allowing for rear-wheel drive only?

It does not disable the 4 matic. All 4 wheels will spin out. I am not sure if the traction control is disabled (4 ETS) since there is no warning about this on the MFD.

So the car remains an AWD car, but I am not sure if the traction control still works or not. I could not tell for sure.

I am very much the sensible sort Every time I get a new car I test everything I possibly can on it (or the similar loaner cars).

Why does this make me sensible? Because then I know my car's limitations and capabilities and I am not surprised by unexpected car behavior when the sh#t hits the fan. Plus, it is sensible to do what is fun for you

Marcos, didn’t you see my videos of me making doughnuts in the snow with my 4 Matic?? That is my sensibility acting up! If you did not see them I will post the link.

Or . . . was this comment triggered by my "Go Gators" comment??

Just turning the car off and removing the key will not get you out of dyno mode. I once had it on for 2 days. Not sure exactly how to get it back the normal way.

I know that it is not just that, but you have to select something with the key in position I and then turn it to position II and then do something else. I did something like that and it turned back on. I only drove for 3 miles with it off (but wanted it on). When I got home, I went back out to the garage and messed with it, then it activated again.

I was amazed at how much safer I feel with these things working under me. I drove the car from the testing area (a vacant mall parking lot) to my house and it was slick and snowy out. I was very careful driving the car, but I sure wished that the ABS and ESP were on. I also was amazed at how well the 4matic works alone without all the electronic aides. Of course, having Bridgestone Blizzaks sure helps a lot!.
