Will the E ever go hybrid?

I know we now have the CDI and I have heard about hydrogen. Will the E ever be a hybrid?

Concerning hybrid, which to my knowledge is a combination of a combustion engine and an electric motor, there is nothing to hear from MB over here in Germany. Concerning hydrogen I there are some A-class cars equipped with hydrogen engines in the field for testing, but nothing that I know to be on the general market soon.

Never! You may see the A car version some day but E drivers lust after the AMG performance! Screw the milage and emissions!

Hah, I wish all of us could say that. To tell you the truth pollution increases a great deal every single day.

It all depends on how it is built. The RX400 is supposed to put out more power and eat less gas which is what everyone wants...

E-class E300e Estate, Sprinter (stretched limo)
Indeed tests are still ongoing with both the A-class and I remember reading somewhere about using a Sprinter.

The 320CDI was first used on the 210 E-class back in 1999 and no doubt as the research develops so we will see different types of 'propulsion'.

Regards,
John

On that note - I've noticed an item in the Mercedes option code lists for "vegetable oil methyl ester". Americans know this fuel as "biodiesel" or "B100" for straight biodiesel (non-blended).

Does anyone here know the details of this variant and where in the world Mercedes-Benz supports it? They're pretty adamant for the U.S. E320CDI that only the dinosaur stuff will do.

(I wonder if we'll ever hear how Willie Nelson's maintenance bills shape up. He apparently took delivery of an E320CDI and plans to only run B100 in it.)

Using bio-diesel or VME in UK registered 320CDI's is a strict 'No-No' and there are numerous warnings about 'restricting' warranty entitlements if 'any' fuel additives are used.

They also recommend changing the oil every 4,600 miles when using diesel fuel with a sulphur content exceeding 0.5% by weight?

I believe modifications had to be made to the engine before selling the 320CDI's to the US?

Regards,
John
