W211 Radio reception
Living in Australia, and only having driven my car for about 2 days. I've noticed the FM radio reception to be fairly poor.
Now, what I mean by poor is this:
For the most part, the "bulk" of the music is clear, but in the background (somewhat hidden by the music) i can hear a hissing sound.
Its not always there, but certainly annoying when it is around.
Anyone else had an experience with this?

I don't have any problems with the reception. But I tend to use the satellite radio now that I have it. I think that satellite radio will turn FM to what AM is now.
But anyway, just to check, see if the reception improves or worsens when you turn on the rear window defogger. If there is any change, then you might have a problem with the antenna (aerial) and would warrant further investigation into the problem.

I had problems when I first got the '03 - reception would get "scratchy" as I entered the underground garage at home...sometime in other hard to get areas for the signal. Once they replaced the audio control module it was fine...there's a thread on here that deals with static...maybe that will help...

FM reception in the UK is excellent without hissing.
Have you tried going back to the ealership and getting into a similar vehicle?
Good luck,
John
