Do you hear click sound in the engine?

Should I take this to the dealer? I hear a soft clicking sound in the engine around 1500-2000rpm, if you hit more than that, the clicking goes faster and smoother. This noise is more noticable when the engine is cold and at around 1500rpm-2000rpm. Basically what I hear is from the engine is just the normal engine noise and that soft clicking sound that disturb me.

Anyone experienced this? Is this normal?

No, my car does not tic/click at all, but it might help other people to know what engine and model year you have. There have been some problems with hydraulic valve lifters on certain engines. The dealer knows about it.

If the "clicking" you're hearing can be heard from inside the car while driving it's the motor mounts, nothing to worry about as the newer design mounts transmit more noise into the cabin especially when the engine is cold. MB will change them to the older design which transmit less noise if you wish...this is a well know issue and the dealer should be able to reference this easily.

Sounds like motor mounts, just make sure when they change them to re check the alignment as the have to unbolt some front end pieces to gain access to the mounts...it also requires raising the engine. I had them changed in my 03 500 and left them alone in my 04.

Same sound in 2001 E430

I just noticed over the past week that I have the same clicking sound upon a cold start. More noticable when standing outside next to the car, but I can still hear it faintly when sitting inside. Once all warmed up and accelerating it goes away

I recently had all 24 lifters replaced on my 2004 E500. They were noisey from the start
and proceeded to get louder over the first 6 months of ownership. Dealer said they
were "sticky". I noticed the clicking sound on cold start-up and part throttle acceleration. The new ones are quieter, but I still can hear them. Will return to dealer
soon for ????.

All of the MB modular engines (MY's 98+) have noisy valve trains...

if you hear this idle, it's probably the fuel vapor recovery valve. Very common sound. There is not much the dealer does. It's located in the engine compartment drivers side behindn the headlight. You can feel it too if you touch it.
