DVD Nav for '05: the newest disk?

So I've read some posts in a few threads, but I don't see agreement. My question is, what's the latest available DVD disk for the '05 E500 Nav system? I've heard 2005.1 and 2005.2. Yet my dealer says the one that came with my August delivery is the latest available. I think that's 2004.1. Does anyone have the facts?

Just as an aside, my problem with the Nav system is its accuracy (50 to 300 feet off) and limited displayed information on the main screen (all the time), as compared with Nav on some other models that always show ETA, current street, city and state, time of day, name of street for next maneuver, etc.

When I drive into a parking lot, the Nav usually stays fixed on that point on the road where I exited. When programming a new destination from the parking lot, it shows the blue line, but since the display does not show the car in the parking lot, nor facing in the correct direction, there's no way to know whether to turn right or left, go north or south, when you get back on the road.

In fact, I went to POIs and asked for the closest MB dealer, which would be my dealer. It programmed the route, but had the dealer about 2.2 miles beyond where they are. When I was with the service manager in his own parking lot, it said his service center was 2.2 miles away. That clinched it for the dealer. After several hours of diagnostics, they concluded the disk is somehow bad and I have to wait for a newer release of the DVD. Therefore my question. What's the version number of the latest available DVD for an 05 E500 Nav?

I just got back from my service after I had lost my nav (no sats and position that was way off), and now it is accurate again. And I looked at the version number of the disc and it is 2005.2. Another thread mentioned something about a newer version coming out.

Thanks. Was there word on how soon the new one would be available? Do you suppose it will be called 2005.3?

Hi there

Did your stealership indicate the cause of your Nav going out of accuracy? Anything to do with the GPS antenna?

TIA

The only reason that the software will be so far out is if the information was added incorrectly. Has the dealership moved within the last five or six years?

Consistant inaccuracy is usually an aerial fault.

Do US systems have Dynamic Route Guidance?

Good luck with getting the new DVD,
John

Dealer's been there 20+ years. The Nav in my earlier 02 ML nailed it.

It works, but it just gets close to the destination. Sometimes 50 feet, sometimes 100-200 feet. I'm guessing they checked the antenna, since the car was with them all day. They tried another DVD (same version I have) and it too failed to find them.

DRG is just now in test in the States, tied to sat radio (X and Sirius), but I don't have it.

I'll post an update when a new disk becomes available.

Does anyone know if the feature set, user interface, displays, etc. change when a newer disk is used? e.g. might the E500 Nav be able to show the 3D view that some MB models have?

Hi HotWheels,
Thanks very much for the quick response.

If it is now getting closer to the dealership it cerainly sounds like an aerial problem.

Dynamic Route guidance is used by COMAND in some European countries and we will be getting it 'soon' (Hopefully no later than autumn this year)

Bye for now,
John

No, I really didn't get a chance to inquire. On the work order, it showed that they replaced the nav disc and that they at least examined the antenna.

Hi alewifebp, I meant to ask you if the 2005.2 disk has given you any new features or new information on the screen. Anything different?

I can't tell what was updated necessarily because of the disc itself in some cases, or what may have changed because the COMAND was also upgraded at the same time.

But, there is a new button that is called Coord, which displays your coordinates. Yeah, I don't know why we need to see that either.

But the disc itself is a lot more accurate so far. It definately has more streets than it did before. Even a rural area that I travelled to frequently in upstate NY now shows (which only showed basically the main highway that went through the town previously), with nearly complete street throughout the town. I'll be able to tell you the accuracy as time goes on, and I see where the locations of POI's are, and whether the details are correct. There also seems to be more POI categories.

Glad to hear about more map detail. I already have the Coord button and yea, that sure is useful. Oh well. Guess my Command was previously updated. When I get the new disk, it will be interesting to see if it knows the location of my MB dealer. I'll keep you posted as well. Thanks.

So my dealer is saying that the newest DVD Nav disk, version 2005.2 is not yet available to dealers as a separate part. That is, it has a part number, but is not yet being shipped for after-market sale. Just available with new car deliveries... he says.

What's up with this? Anybody have the facts?

Just received and installed version 2005.2 DVD Nav disk. The only change I've noticed so far is that it now knows where my dealer is located. 2004.2 had him 2 miles away from his actual location. After installation, as someone else pointed out, it updated software for a couple of minutes. No clue what was being updated. Was hoping for some new features or info displays, but nothing noticed.

Has anyone heard if the user interface will be updated by MB with new features via some kind of flash update?

Is there a chance that the 2005.2 version would resolve any of my issues with the command unit shutting down? I heard mention of a software upgrade with it. My 2005.1 version is just an updated data file, no upgrades.

2005 E-500
Newer 2005 E-500

Just took delivery of a E-500 on Monday which was a January build. It has
2005.1 version of the DVD. Salesperson (not unexpectedly) knew nothing of a 2005.2 version. The information appears to be complete, but then I live in a major metro area.

Surprised to discover a fairly nice CD holder for about 20 CD's in the trunk. Not hear about this bonus before.

Sorry, I have no clue. Maybe one of the MB technical specialists on this forum will have some advice for you.

Hi jangy,
Your unit should surley not be randomly shutting down. Problems with early COMAND should have been rectified and the more modern ones should be faultless.

Granted mine is a European model, but that should make no difference. There are a few 'upgrades' that are designed to rectify any slight problems? Is your vehicle fully up todate with the different upgrades?

Good luck,
John

There is a 2005.3 available. My dealer wants like $495 Canadian for it.. That is a total ripoff IMHO.. Someone needs to bring their laptop to the dealer and back up that current release. heh

Sorry for the dumb question but is the COMAND Nav DVD a single disc that includes all of the USA ???

Unlike the COMAND Nav CD's which comes in a set of 10-12 discs.

Reading this thread, it is funny to note that on my COMAND CD Jan/2004 version, my local dealership is also 2 miles off from where it really is.
Everything else plot just perfectly. It's just the dealership that is off ?

I'm getting the new COMAND CD Jan/2005 this week, so I will be curious to find out if the dealership is still off mark, or if they have corrected this glitch.

Anyway, I may have an extra COMAND Nav DVD available for sale.
Dealer sent it to me as an 2005 update thinking I had DVD version.
I told him that I my COMAND is CD based, so I don't need it.
Not sure what version it is 2005.1 / 2005.2 / 2005.3, but when I get home tonight I'll check, and post again.

Carlos

Ok,
home now, and pulled out this DVD Nav disk.
It turns out it is only for the 2005 C-Class and CLK-Class. Which makes sense because both my cars are C-Class.
It says BQ 6 46 0204 Version 2004.1

So, I don't think this will work on the E-Class anyway ? Does anyone know for sure?

Just received version 2005.3 (BQ 6 46 0209). I haven't put it in yet, however. Bought from someone on ebay for $109. Found it totally by coincidence. I was looking at a plasma the same seller was selling, and came across this. What a deal!

For those who opted for MBUSA 3 year navigation update with purchase has anyone gotten a free subscription? Also, can anyone attest that, not unlike the maintenance programs and extended warranties, the navigation update cost can be negotiated at the dealership level?

Nav DVD on ebay

On Ebay Motors, there is a nav dvd for e class and others offered by lvpeugeot, item #7893697453. It is part # BQ 6 46 0206. It's 2005.2, not 2005.3.
