DVD Nav for '05: the newest disk?
Just as an aside, my problem with the Nav system is its accuracy (50 to 300 feet off) and limited displayed information on the main screen (all the time), as compared with Nav on some other models that always show ETA, current street, city and state, time of day, name of street for next maneuver, etc.
When I drive into a parking lot, the Nav usually stays fixed on that point on the road where I exited. When programming a new destination from the parking lot, it shows the blue line, but since the display does not show the car in the parking lot, nor facing in the correct direction, there's no way to know whether to turn right or left, go north or south, when you get back on the road.
In fact, I went to POIs and asked for the closest MB dealer, which would be my dealer. It programmed the route, but had the dealer about 2.2 miles beyond where they are. When I was with the service manager in his own parking lot, it said his service center was 2.2 miles away. That clinched it for the dealer. After several hours of diagnostics, they concluded the disk is somehow bad and I have to wait for a newer release of the DVD. Therefore my question. What's the version number of the latest available DVD for an 05 E500 Nav?
Did your stealership indicate the cause of your Nav going out of accuracy? Anything to do with the GPS antenna?
TIA
The only reason that the software will be so far out is if the information was added incorrectly. Has the dealership moved within the last five or six years?
Consistant inaccuracy is usually an aerial fault.
Do US systems have Dynamic Route Guidance?
Good luck with getting the new DVD,
John

It works, but it just gets close to the destination. Sometimes 50 feet, sometimes 100-200 feet. I'm guessing they checked the antenna, since the car was with them all day. They tried another DVD (same version I have) and it too failed to find them.
DRG is just now in test in the States, tied to sat radio (X and Sirius), but I don't have it.
I'll post an update when a new disk becomes available.
Does anyone know if the feature set, user interface, displays, etc. change when a newer disk is used? e.g. might the E500 Nav be able to show the 3D view that some MB models have?

Thanks very much for the quick response.
If it is now getting closer to the dealership it cerainly sounds like an aerial problem.
Dynamic Route guidance is used by COMAND in some European countries and we will be getting it 'soon' (Hopefully no later than autumn this year)
Bye for now,

But, there is a new button that is called Coord, which displays your coordinates. Yeah, I don't know why we need to see that either.
But the disc itself is a lot more accurate so far. It definately has more streets than it did before. Even a rural area that I travelled to frequently in upstate NY now shows (which only showed basically the main highway that went through the town previously), with nearly complete street throughout the town. I'll be able to tell you the accuracy as time goes on, and I see where the locations of POI's are, and whether the details are correct. There also seems to be more POI categories.
What's up with this? Anybody have the facts?
Has anyone heard if the user interface will be updated by MB with new features via some kind of flash update?
2005.1 version of the DVD. Salesperson (not unexpectedly) knew nothing of a 2005.2 version. The information appears to be complete, but then I live in a major metro area.
Surprised to discover a fairly nice CD holder for about 20 CD's in the trunk. Not hear about this bonus before.
Your unit should surley not be randomly shutting down. Problems with early COMAND should have been rectified and the more modern ones should be faultless.
Granted mine is a European model, but that should make no difference. There are a few 'upgrades' that are designed to rectify any slight problems? Is your vehicle fully up todate with the different upgrades?
Good luck,
John
There is a 2005.3 available. My dealer wants like $495 Canadian for it.. That is a total ripoff IMHO.. Someone needs to bring their laptop to the dealer and back up that current release. heh
Unlike the COMAND Nav CD's which comes in a set of 10-12 discs.
Reading this thread, it is funny to note that on my COMAND CD Jan/2004 version, my local dealership is also 2 miles off from where it really is.
Everything else plot just perfectly. It's just the dealership that is off ?

I'm getting the new COMAND CD Jan/2005 this week, so I will be curious to find out if the dealership is still off mark, or if they have corrected this glitch.
Anyway, I may have an extra COMAND Nav DVD available for sale.
Dealer sent it to me as an 2005 update thinking I had DVD version.
I told him that I my COMAND is CD based, so I don't need it.
Not sure what version it is 2005.1 / 2005.2 / 2005.3, but when I get home tonight I'll check, and post again.

home now, and pulled out this DVD Nav disk.
It turns out it is only for the 2005 C-Class and CLK-Class. Which makes sense because both my cars are C-Class.
It says BQ 6 46 0204 Version 2004.1
So, I don't think this will work on the E-Class anyway ? Does anyone know for sure?
