W212 up close and personal
Just returned from the NY Auto Show Preview Night and had a very detailed look at the W212 E-class saloon and coupe.
MB USA had a Sports Pkg and non-Sports saloon and the difference is stark, the car NEEDS the Sports Pkg. The integrated exhaust outlet with the Sports Pkg makes a big difference in making the rear end look more cohesive. And I can live with the taillight treatment, as long as it has the Sports Pkg.
The interior is, IMHO, a very nice improvement over the W211 and the fit and material appear to be better than the W211 as well.
The coupe is a very good looking car, though I personally still think the original W124 E-class coupe looks better. I am glad MB kept the signature pillarless window treatment when the front and rear windows on down, it just looks terrific.
So, I am pretty convinced that I would seriously consider a W212 when the lease on my E63 ends next year. The W212 E550 with the Sports Pkg is probably how I'd order the car if I get it. I also hope to see the estate version of the W212 soon as I am considering changing to an SUV or an estate next with our growing family. The new and improved Ranger Rover and RR Sport with the supercharged engine are giving me some food for thought, along with the Cayenne GTS (though very pricey with the options I want) or the Jaguar XF-R.
Thank goodness I have 12 months to figure it out!
