If this is what I'm thinking of, most new E's had it when I got my 2011, including mine to a slight extent. Mine is a 3/11 build date.

konigstiger 01-12-2012 09:46 AM

Regardless of JAN11 notation, I would have bumper checked.

Recall 2011110002 JAN12 – 2011 164, 164.8, 212 and 251 check diesel fuel filter replace if necessary. Due to the variations in the materials used by supplier filter may develop leaks. Approximately 6,784 vehicles affected.

- 212 up to VIN A519818 front door windows intermittently reverse direction when closing cause excessive resistance dealer will replace and align window under warranty.

LI68.10-P-050415 - 212 burl walnut trim that is fading or discoloring and VIN is between A000988 to A291888 cause inadequate UV protection dealer will replace all trim under warranty.

Hi Konigstiger,

For:

LI68.10-P-050415 - 212 burl walnut trim that is fading or discoloring and VIN is between A000988 to A291888 cause inadequate UV protection dealer will replace all trim under warranty.

Is the issue and replacement limited to the serial range provided? I have an A31xxxx and the burl trim above the glove box is considerably faded as compared to the adjacent trim. Could there be a few outside the range with the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Regardless of VIN dealer should replace any discolored wood trim under factory warranty without question. You can reference DTB to justify a claim to replace all trim if you have concern that new piece may not match remaining trim.

Picture of the faded Trim in my 2010. Emailed my dealer the pics this AM and asked him to get back to me with the date he wanted to schedule to replace all the trim - being replaced this Thursday.

Thanks for pics

WOW! That looks awful. Does your car sit in the sun a lot? Reason that I ask is because my car doesn't bake in the sun too often, and I have tinted windows which I wonder mask the effect of fading the wood. However, now that I see it, there's no doubt that my eyes aren't playing any tricks on me.... my cars wood has not faded at all, and it very colorful/full looking.

BM2BZ 03-20-2012 04:33 AM

i don't understand why only faded on two sides, not the top ?

konigstiger 04-03-2012 03:51 PM

LI46.20-P-053398 – Rattling/thumping noises from area of steering, possible cause excessive play between thrust piece and steering rack.

LI88.20-P-053415 – s212 (wagon) & 218 (CLS) Rear bumper sticks out in area of rear lamp, cause too much play between bracket for bumper and lamp. Thermal expansion causes the bumper to stick out, protective fill is installed to correct this.

LI82.10-P-053439 – “High Beam Assist nonfunctional” message, replace multi function camera and calibrate.

MatOhio 04-06-2012 08:02 AM

Generally had the slider pushed in. Dealer replaced all the wood. It was a factory defect; bad batch of UV protection.
Side note: given the many issues I have had with this vehicle, dealer and M-B replaced my 2010 with a new 2012! A HUGE show of unbelievable customer support that has endeared me to both forever. This is why M-B is #1 in customer retention. Forget the horror stories you read; work with them in a reasonable, professional manner and good things happen. The 2012 is sooooo sweet!!!

LI27.60-P-051774 (original release 5/11), should be applicable - as I understand it dealer will update software.

MRFINANCE03 04-13-2012 03:08 PM

Do you know what the trunk money is on a E 350 2012 and is there a Loyality program...I know there is a conquest of 3000.00 on 2012 e-class

OMG...my dealer told me that it's normal! :smash::smash::smash:

I believe this is the discoloration. I usually leave my tray tucked in, but you can see on the side it's starting to fade.

K-A 04-14-2012 07:28 PM

You guys with discoloration, do you leave your car out in the sun a lot? I don't, and I have my tray closed mostly, so it would be harder to tell if my car did have lack of UV protection on the wood. Though, I know for sure that there's been no fading yet (nice and dark/rich), in case I did keep the car for a long time, it would suck if the fading effects were slow enough to where the car would be out of warranty when I'd start to notice it.

Nope, mine was garaged at all times plus live in Cleveland and we have no sunshine! You can check if fading is occuring by opening your front door and compare the wood that is at the very front of the door and is tucked in next to the dashboard when the door is closed. There was a very noticeable difference on mine. Will post a picture when not on my phone.

Yeh. My car sits in the sun from 10am until 10 at night. Pretty much 6 days a week.

Ah, good one! I will keep an eye on that area as a gauge. Also, my windows are dark tinted which also would prevent the fading effect of UV rays in the case that my cars wood is one of the affected batches.

I own a 2010 E350 coupe, can you please send me the DTB so I can show them as they are giving me pushback about faded wood trim
