Premium Leather

For the US special option, what is Premium Leather in detail for the E Coupe? It is around $1350 option alone.

Wow looking at MBUSA....

looks like you can only have the Elegance package with the leather... no Avantgarde option.

That being said..... you pay less than HALF for the car than people in Europe have to pay.... and even more less than those in Australia.

IMHO leather should be standard in an E class without being forced to buy an E 550.

IDK, but is the leather on the 350 artificial? My dealer told me it is real leather. The premium leather is just softer and fluffy. ?

This will give you a better understanding of MB leather choices.

AFAIK, the standard material on cars like the E350, ML350, GL450, etc. are MB-TEX, not real leather. Leather seating material is optional on these cars.

On cars like the W221 S-Class, the standard hide is real leather, but there is a premium leather option that is akin to Nappa Leather I think.

Actually I think the S-Classes come standard with Nappa Leather, or at least I know the W220's did.

I must be the only one who prefers M-B Tex, I feel it's perfect as long as the middle front inserts are real Leather (so you're sitting on the comfy stuff) like on the W211 E350's. Maintaining M-B Tex is a cinch, and it's incredibly durable.

BTW, can anyone confirm with me that the W212 has genuine Leather inserts like on the W211? I ask this because the ones I've sat in have a material that feels a bit rougher than what's in my car, and it almost didn't feel like the inserts were actual Leather.

To clarify, all E-Class Coupes have leather standard. As it was previously stated the Premium Leather optional upgrade is really Nappa leather and having been in both an E Coupe with and without I can say the Premium leather it is really very supple & luxurious leather. You get the added benefit of leather door inserts that have a pleated look and the armrests in the center and on the doors are also covered in the premium leather.

MB stoped doing leather inserts for model year 2006. If the vehicle has MB Tex now, it is all MB Tex there is no cow inside.

For example my 2005 C had leather inserts in the front only and the 09 E350 had no leather at all, it was all Tex. Same for W212 E350 Sedan, either all MB Tex or all leather.

Really? Wow that sucks.

I love having the Tex but hate sitting on it. I guess I lucked out by getting an early (late '05) build '06, as I got still got the DD Seats and Leather inserts.

W220 did NOT come standard with nappa leather. Only S500 and up came with Nappa standard. S430 and 2006 S350 had "standard leather" code starts with a "2". Premium leather starts with an "8" and exclusive leather starts with a "5". Exclusive typically means minimally leather wrapped dashboard but the article konigstiger posted is way more comprehensive.

In Canada they call the standard interior in the w212 Sed Artico leather with a little star next to it. At the bottom of the page they explain that it is a man made material and not real leather. In the US they call it MB Tex because your liability laws are not as lax and you are not as gullible as we are.

You're right, sorry forgot to state that indeed only the S500 and up come standard with Nappa.

Sorry my mistake, 2006 E320 CDI and E350 did have leather inserts, they changed it for the E at facelift for MY2007.

Damn M-B cost cutting. They always try and go for the things they think (or realize more-so) that people won't notice. For example, the door locks on the F.L's are a super cheap little thing, as opposed to the pre F.L's classier, "sprouting" chrome ringed ones. Also the headlight switch surrounding piece in the tan interior F.L's is a flat black, not color coded like on the pre F.L's, to name a couple.

The door locks are indeed much cheaper and while it hasnt happened to me yet, they apparently break off quite easily according to other threads.

The black headlight switch appears to be coated in a rubber type material, I think the older colored types weren't (although I may be wrong, its been quite some time since I've been in an older model0. Seeing how its a high wear area and shows finger prints and dirt, I would rather have the more durable rubber coated part, even if it didn't match the rest of the interior.

True, I guess I'm just more of a "form over function" kinda guy. I hate how the new M-B's don't have wood around the door opener/seat controls like the W211 has, makes the area look more industrial and less fancy IMO.

BTW stop teasing me with that W221 pic! I'm already lusting after the S-Classes enough recently, I don't need that to enhance the situation!

Have you guys seen the new door locks in the E-Class Coupe? They are chrome and look pretty nice. The edges of the doors have chrome on them too. Sorry I can't find pictures.

Yeah I saw the chrome edges, nice touch. Didn't pay attention to the door locks though.

Lol, my dealership is getting the S400 hybrid in sometime this week or next, no word on the refreshed S63/S65 versions though.
