BTW about the door pins, the Pre F.L 211's have IMO much nicer "sprouting" door pins with chrome centers, one of the examples I was making about M-B decontenting because their buyers are too busy buying the newest Star-Ship to impress the Joneses, and being wowed by some of the popping-smoke effect, is they don't pay attention to, or deny the little things. Like when M-B put SUPER cheapo door pins in the F.L 211's, and 212's, etc.

But the reality (at least here) is that MBs depreciate like a rock and you can get them for next to nothing on the used market. Look at the price of 2-3 year old S Class and CLs.

The MB cache is pretty meaningless if you ask me. And it's also pretty stupid, imho. I wish they didn't have that stigma. I think I'd feel weird owning one in a rural area. I like MBs for their technology, history, racing pedigree, and real world daily driveability. The status garbage I could well do without.

Here in LA you have homies and ballers driving MBs. Soccer moms, too. There are everywhere. I think the E Class is the default car around here.

Hey, we all know that driving a car to make your self look better is not a good reason (unless you're Hank Hill's neighbor, Khan Souphanousinphone. LOL) Buy and drive what you truly honestly want. Anyway, status is short lived and is pretty meaningless in the bigger context of humanity.

That said, the door pins are still pretty cheesy
E-Class is EVERYWHERE in L.A, literally, the C-Classes are in fact so default, I am numb to their designs, even the 204, just like the 3-Series.

I bought a 211 with an AMG Package (very hard to find before '09) because it was the ONLY thing that would separate my car from the regulars on the road, and make me like looking at it over the 100 E's next to it. Fact is, the 212's don't have this effect anymore, all will look the same, and the AMG pack won't carry any more excitement for an enthusiast.

Personally, I'm weird in the sense that I don't care how good a car is, I can't drive an identical version to all the others on the road, something as simple as a relatively "exclusive" pack makes all the difference to me.

Thankfully, M-B still allows the W221's to have the effect of not whoring the AMG pack everywhere, so you'll see some diversity on the roads.

When did I say I'm numb to the 212? I was talking about C-Classes, 203, 204, doesn't matter, so many are out there I'm numb to those.

I stated why I'm here in one of those very posts. ^^

Oh I've read your posts...Ive owned an 05 55 a 07 63 and now a 10 63...I have to say that the people on this forum really now their stuff and I'm impressed. You my friend clearly seem to be on a mission. I could be wrong though. Lord knows I'm frequently wrong and seldom in doubt. It just looks that way brotha.

Bubba, how do you like the MCT? I'm guessing it feels quicker and def shifts quicker. The weight of it pretty much negates the slight hp increase, but it must shift pretty clean.

No mission, just the way I am. I don't think I'm really wrong or out of line in anything I've said, maybe frequent, a bit too forward, seemingly "aggressive", but it's all in the name of enthusiasm, or else I wouldn't be spending so much time doing it. I think my points are thought out and accurate, I just think many get too fired up that I'm making points they don't agree with.

I know this is going to sound so lame but it hasn't been out of C mode and I have only put 300 miles on it. Two trips to Jersey from Manhattan in three weeks.

Plus, who's to say I won't consider a 212 in some time. My 211 is paid off and as long as I appreciate it as I do now, I will continue to keep and pamper it, and I have a measly payment to make on my mileage hog/work driver (Malibu). I constantly am looking for a luxurious and EXTREMELY SAFE car to drive on my 2000-ish mile work trips every month, and am looking for a car who's styling I am not in love with, as I don't want to worry about dirtying it up and it getting a bit beat. The 212 falls right into this category, so who knows, maybe it'll be a contender one day when prices come back down to earth.

So let's just say part of what I'm doing is in fact, "research".

That's a painful wait: the break-in time. But I think you'll like the quickness of the MCT shifts. I kinda wish they had done a 5 speed MCT and increased torque. The 7 speed is really for mpg and smooth city driving. I normally just stay in 5th for spirited driving 6th and 7th is like overdrive.

I too had the problem with the hood being slightly open on one side.

I've noticed that several people complain the drivers side, while others like myself have the issue on the passenger side. (assuming we all have left hand drive)

I've tried the "force" closing from the center, but never really worked out.
The Latches on the hood are located on either ends of the grill.

Closing it firmly with hands above the latch area, will close it seamlessly.

MB financial expect you to pay X amount of money for your lease every month so you in turn expect the car to be a certain way. If the car is not a certain way you shouldn't just put up with it for the rest of the lease. If you decided that you are going to pay less then the agreed amount on your lease contract do you think MB financial is going to put up with it ? They are going to make a fuss because that is not what you've agreed on. The same goes for us; if the car is not how it is when we took the keys from the dealer it needs to be fixed. Slamming the hood a couple of times to get it to close correctly ? Please; this is a Mercedes. Clearly something is broken or not right. Any decent dealer would acknowledge this as an issue and fix it ASAP. If they don't you need to find a different dealer. Just my $0.2...
+1
