Oil Change
Hi,
Just a question regarding oil change. I normally use synthetic oil and change the oil every 5,000 miles. Mercedes recommends changing every 10,000 miles. Is that really a safe practice? What are your views. This is the first time I've owned a Mercedes so I was curious to know wha other MB owners were doing. Thanks!!

I'm leasing, so I follow whatever MB manual says, but I think it's safe to change oil every 7-8K miles. Just my personal opinion.

If M-B says it's safe to do so at 10K, then I'd go with that. They're not gonna tell you to do something that will harm the car. Save your money and go by what the manual says.

10k mi is perfectly fine for MB's. Generally you can go 1k mi for every qtr of conventional oil. The MB E holds about 7-8 qtrs synthetic oil, and it's safe to go over 10k mi per oil change, especially in California weather. If you do lots of short trips and often shut off the car before it's warmed up and parked it over night, then you may consider changing it every 5k mi. If you live in the cold east coast, you may want to change the oil before and after winter. Condensation is a problem in cold weather places and could clog up the valves.
