License Plates

Just out of curiosity, I bought my car Sept 22 here in the Bay Area, Ca but I have not received my license plates yet. I know they had this cash for clunker thing but it's been almost 2 months and still no plates. I was wondering if any one has encountered the same problem. I'm about ready to contact the DMV.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The dealer will either send a clerk to the DMV and process the paperwork or they have a supply of plates at the dealership and they'll electronically file the paperwork with the DMV and you'll get the plates in the mail from the dealer and the title directly from the DMV (if you paid cash). If the dealer sends a clerk to the DMV it may take longer as they typically wait until they have many to process to make it a worthwhile trip.

In CA the temp tag is a small piece of paper attached to the front windshield. It's good for 90 days.

Regular sequential plates I got within 8-10 weeks. Personalized plates I had to wait another 8 weeks.

I always though CA temp tags were good for up to 6 months? I had them on one car for 4 months (while waiting for personalized plates), and my other car for 6 months (since the DMV took their time to reject my first personalized places for a BS reason, so I had to pick an alternate and resubmit it again).

Thanks for the info guys. I just thought this was out of the ordinary. I've never had to wait this long for my other plates. Usually they came within a few weeks.
