I hear ya. I test drove a 550 before buying mine and it was quiet as can be. I found out after the fact (I now know to check) that my car was built in April 09, meaning it must have been one of the first built...

Thanks for the reply. That's probably why they don't have a fix for it. On the other hand, they might have it diagnosed and know what the fix is but, whatever the design flaw is that causes the noise, the cost to correct it is probably more than they want to spend given the number of complaints.
I can tell you that I'm admittedly rather paranoid about creaks/rattles in my cars so if my E550 winds up having this issue I will not be a happy camper! This will translate into my dealership not being happy campers either. The 550i I've been driving for almost 3 years never had one creak/rattle/clunk type issue.

dealer told me today that they have the new shock/suspension part they intend to install to try & fix the thud - yet [ amazingly enough] the shop foreman also said to me that it is entirely possible that it might not fix the problem ..... BUT WAIT THERES MORE !!! he also said that it should only take 1/2 day to do the install but that they may need the car back if "it doesnt all go as we hope because sometimes the new part may need adjusting" ......i am not sure when i will actually get it done right now since i need the car on a daily basis for 2 weeks & am then off on a family holiday in December & will 'garage' the car for Jan & Feb & use another vehicle i have while the weather remains crappy up here ....in the meantime i will check in on this thread to see if someone else gets to the apparent 'fix' before i do ....
