attention assist
It works!! Very late drive from PA home to NY. Suffice it to say I took its advice and got some coffee. If it only made coffee too. The "thats really cool" factor sort of woke me up enough though. Like I suspect many others I had been unsuccessful in tricking it to go off.

Very interested to hear about this Feature actually, as to whether it's marketing gimmickery or really works.
The beep is light? If a car was gonna wake me up, it would need a LOUD beep, and something to just jolt me to alertness.
What were you guys doing when it went off, were you actually dozing off, i.e was it accurate?

Do you actually have to close your eyes ? In what moment it knows you are tired ????
Thanks..

Highroller makes a good point about the beep being light. It was enough to get my attention but I would have definitely expected something much louder. Not sure if my eyes closed to be honest but I was defintely badly zoned out and pretty close to nodding off if I hadn't actually. I would say as a safety feature it's not an end all be all but it dovetails nicely with distronic and lane departure on drives like that one.

I think it looks at steering inputs, speed and time behind the wheel. A gradual slowing followed by sharp course corrections after more then like an hour I think gets it's attention. I read an article about it a long time ago, but it seems pretty cool.

It notices change in behavior, not swerving. It samples your drving characteristics for 20 minutes at highway speed (I forget the minimum speed) and then waits for telltale signs of a person getting drousy. According to MB a person normally makes constant small corrections to keep a car in a lane. When you get drousy you typically make less corrections but they get larger as you are no longer paying close attention. If you are a driver who normally makes few but large corrections the car will sample that and look for a deviation from that model.
If you want to test it, you need to drive normally and then act drousy.
Highroller- its sounds as if it worked perfectly for you- You could not make it go off while trying but when you were actually tired it DID. Sounds like a great testamonial to me...

Yes according to manual it looks at 70 different variables. I had distronic on for probably 30 or 40 min straight so even works well without analyzing my accelerator/ brake inputs. I thought Lexus was developing something that analized respiration and eye movement although this system does not.

It went off for me a few times on a recent trip - and it was accurate. I know I was getting sleepy and the beep actually did alert me. I knew there was a rest stop 30 minutes ahead so I kept going and it continued to alert me every few minutes or so. I assume my behavior was still indicating drowsiness.
The closest thing to an error in the system wasn't really an error. At one point a car started to swerve into my lane causing me to jerk and speed up to get away. I expected it would set off the system, being as it had already gone off, and it did.
It's never gone off when I wasn't actually sleepy. I don't think it's supposed to wake you up if you actually fall asleep, but to alert you before you get to that point. I wasn't tired enough to actually zonk out, but I was definitely on my way. I'm pleased with the system.

It went off on my trip back from picking the car up from the dealer. I wasnt sleepy but I made a sudden swerve back to my lane as I was veering off course because I was messing with the sat nav on my phone.

That makes sense- symptoms of distracted driving should be almost identical to those of drowsy driving. (not criticizing you- I am no better)

if you actually try to make go off it wont. i tried several times and failed. the 2 times it went off for me were 1, i did a sudden sharp lane change, so i guess it took it as swerving, 2 i was all up night and had to drive 1 hour home and i was getting really tired and it went off, i think maybe i was accelerating then going slow then accelerating , just trying to stay awake. i wasn't swerving or anything . the point is the dealer made it sound like its this state of the art system that will wow you. it doesn't and actually if you do probably fall asleep that little beep wont wake you ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Sucks the beep isn't too loud, I'd assume they don't want to startle you, but I would prefer something that would slap you awake per-se, like a relatively loud-enough beep, and maybe some steering-wheel vibration.
I drive a lot (not in my E however), and have started dozing off at the wheel way more times than I care to think about, the attention assist would really come in handy for me.

This is an amazing system. One of the biggest selling points, if not *the* biggest selling point to me personally for a 212.

For me, it went off a few times on my drive to Vegas. I wasn't tired or drowsy or anything, but we were watching a movie - Hangover, that movie is FUNNYYYYY!
About the beep - I don't think any of the beeps in this car are loud enough. The alarm beep, the break assist beep, the lane keeping assist beep, and all the other beeps should be a few decibels louder... I wonder if there's anyway to turn them all up a notch?

Watching a movie? There is no system to protect against irresponsibility except the removal of your driving priviledge.

" Who said driver was watching it?"
We implies the driver was watching TV, otherwise you would use the term "they were watching TV" . Maybe I misunderstood your post and you can clarify it for me.
