So are you saying your engine is also quite? I only ask because mine seems to be getting louder.
The engine is loud, but so is my 535i, which is also "direct-injection" (although the Benz's application is considerably/surprisingly louder)...I have given up on that uphill battle and just deal with it...although I disagree that this should the "normal" (as the dealership puts it) sound of cars of this caliber, and I refuse to believe BMW and M-B can't/couldn't have come up with something better to shield the noise (or at least address customer complaints by offering a TSB or accessory or recall or something)---I bet you won't hear an S or 7, or even a Lexus xS/xX, sounding like that! [sorry that hit a sore spot, let me jump down from my soapbox]
On a good note, originally I was referring to being inside the cabin, everything is serene and drives smooth...which compared to the loaner 2017 C300 I have (while my W211 E550 is getting headlight parts) that surprisingly/comparatively has a lot of wind/road noise, especially from the wind over the side mirrors.
I still want to at least Dynamat the entire trunk area to make it even quieter; don't think I will go too overboard and do doors panels, under carpet, under seats, or fender/wheels wells, etc. Anyone ever tried to add sound deadening materials to the hood area to kill the "normal direct-injection" sound?
I am new to the W212 family, and a little late to the game. I had the honor of joining you guys in purchasing a new (to me) 2014 E350 4Matic 'Sport' last week, and I am super excited!!
The car is amazing: still >1 year left of factory warranty and only 24k pampered miles; quiet and smooth as heck. It looks flawless inside and out; and is fully loaded, with every avail option except for 115V outlet and rear seat entertainment pkg. I got the designo Diamond White over Porcelain interior, with pano roof.
I don't want to go overboard, but some quick mods already planned are:
-Carbon Fiber mirrors
-Black or CF roof spoiler
-Carbon Fiber lower front fascia bits
-Changing woodgrain to designo Bamboo
-Dynamatting the trunk area
-maybe some black or gunmetal wheels, although I like the OEM upgraded AMG wheel pkg
A lot
of the Mercedes colors seem to change significantly in different lighting. Here is my palladium silver 2014 on a clear Sunday afternoon. It needs a wash and I'm not much of a photographer but I still love how the color shows in this light.

White pair up with CF pieces are the best!!
Can't wait to see all these mods on your lists!!

Yeah, now I just need to find out where to source these parts from (or some reliable aftermarket sellers with whom owners have had positive experiences)

Car looks badass to me!
I would just make the trunk bar gold and the rear Mercedes star gold too...you don't want the "metalloids" to clash, especially in that close proximity.

I might tear it off later this week.
Oh man...dips takes a lot time and effort...

Now that's a worthy mod. Looks clean as hell. Good stuff. Im a bit jealous of your amber turn signals, that should've been introduced to the US market.
Dipped lower side skirt and lower rear trim matte gold. Same color as front splitter.
The rear lower trim not sure if it looks good or not.

I really like the contrast of the added gold. I think if you could find a gloss vinyl that more closely matches the lip of your wheels, it would look a lot better. I feel the darker note would be more subtle and compliment the car vs pull your attention to the accents as the focal point. I also agree that eliminating the chrome will balance the look as well. Wrap the window trim and plastidip the badges and trunk strip + Logos front and rear.

I was going to dip it same color as my rims.
But Bronze color has that orange tune. So, i didn't go with it.
I might give it a try later.
Thats the beauty of dip, you can change any color you want.
It is just very time consuming.
The window chrome trim and trunk chrome trim will be the next.
Its going to be blacked out.
The window trim will be a challenge to dip. Because, the rubber is overlapping the chrome trim.
I have checked youtube tutorial, there is a way to do it. But its just pain in the butt.
I have also replaced my front hood emblem with New Mercedes Black Emblem.
Here is the comparison between original and black emblem.
Cocobeex for window trim i recommend this
http://shadowlinetrim.com/purchase.html
(get a roll of matte or gloss black tape)
Had it done about 3 years ago and still looks good. Way better looking than plasti dip , which actually dont look good on window trim. Look like you got skills to do it too.
sharing the best only lol
NOTE: I have no idea why the photos are showing up twice. In preview, they are only once.... Enjoy.... and enjoy again
After a few hurdles/tire issues/getting the backspacing machined/corrected (which ironically could not have worked out better due to the wheels design/build), I finally got my new (to me) Forged Axiom's onto my car. I wasn't sure I would love them, but now that they are on. I'm very pleased. My plan is to powder coat them a dark gloss bronze metallic if I end up sticking with them after this summer.
I was able to fit 245/35r20 fronts and 275/30r20 rears. So far, it doesn't seem like they rub which is a huge bonus for both ride quality as well as protecting the rims.
While just commencing her a bath/minor paint correction and wax, I had gorgeous 2008 CLK63 Black Series randomly show up to the condo car wash. Needless to say I was distracted and had an hour conversation with the owner which cut into the detailing session a bit.
Now I just need my carbon lip, diffuser, rear splitters, taller spoiler, and to get around to plastidipping the exhaust tips. While I'm not intentionally going for a fully blacked out look, they are large and the chrome seems a bit out of place.....

If your car is freshly waxed, wipe down the section you want to dip with acetone/mineral spirits.... mask the general area. Lay down the coats, allow to dry over night. Take a toothpick or similar and carefully separate the dip along the seam of what you are trying to coat. I did this with my badges and it took me all of 3 minutes of prep.....
As for the window trim, I'd suggest trying Vinyl. I had no experience with it, did my grill as the first thing I tried (took 2 attempts, but I did it on the car due to not wanting to re-install/level my laser jammers and radar head)... and then did my window trim, the rear deck lid trim and door trim in about 3 hours.... I was in a time crunch and hurried it but I'd give the outcome a 9/10.... I could do it much more quickly and likely with near perfect results if I wanted to repeat it. Any amateur imperfections will likely still look better than the spray...
Also, I'm buying that new hood badge to replace my poser Brabus one now that I ended up with the Meisterschaft + OE Tuning vs planned Brabus options. While the B logo matches my last name, but doesn't sit well with me
