Renntech ECU and K&N
I drove to Scottsdale today and got the Renntech ECU reflash and K&N air filters installed and they made a nice improvement.
After baseline dyno and adding the K&N filter there was a 5hp increase.
After installing the Renntech ECU reflash and with the K&N filter the total hp increase came to 25hp. It was a very nice increase and I could definately feel the 25 more horses. The speedlimiter was also increased from 130mph stock to 187mph. Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale did a great job with everything.

That's interesting that you got THAT much HP from just a K&N. I didn't think even the most suffocated cars would get that much from just a drop in, and people swear that M-B's don't gain anything from K&N's, or in fact, "lose" HP, since apparently the M-B stock air system and Filters are good enough.
What was your RWHP before the K&N? Always wanted to know what a RWD 3.5 V6 racks up....

The K&N air filter drop in was the cheapest gains of hp you can get. The filters were only $100 and a 5hp was nice.
My base line dyno numbers were 210hp to the ground and after the K&N drop ins went to 215hp.
Then the Renntech ECU brought that number to 235hp with a gain of 20hp.

Nice. Nothing wrong with 5 HP for $100.
I don't know why M-B's have so much drivetrain (HP) loss. When I was into Mustangs, I remember 260 HP models were getting 215-220-ish HP through a Slushbox, and an easy 225 HP through a Manual.
One guy here dynoed his 4Matic E350 at 180-ish HP.... Ouch!

I can notice it in C mode but definately very noticeable in S mode. I think it was worth it. The shifts are very crisp and I did notice an increase of about 2 mpg of Highway mileage on my 200 mile drive back from Phoenix. Not that it will matter for me but you with an E550 it raised the speed limiter from 130mph to 187mph.

I dont know about So Cal but I got mine installed in Phx. I dont know how much of a drive that would be for you to phx but it might be worth it.

You should notice 25 HP a smidge.
A good way to think about HP, is usually, 10 HP is equal to .1 and roughly 1 MPH in the 1/4.
So if you're savvy with 1/4 mile times in cars, and think that .2-.3 off your time, and 2.5 MPH is worth that $1,200, then go for it.
Personally, I don't care enough to spend that kind of cash for that kind of HP, but my "HP junkie" days are over. Then again, a reason I got a V6 is so I'd be so behind in the game, I wouldn't care about adding any HP to my car (even +25 HP is under 300 HP in this car). If I had a car with almost 400 HP, I might feel the need to squeeze out as many ponies as possible, i.e feel more competitive in that field.

i came from a fully modified integra type R. was doing 450hp/wheels pushing 28lbs of boost. i know power and i dont care for it anymore. im married now with kids so time to slow down. the e550c has plenty of power i love the car. but a little bit more kick wouldn't be so bad. i was just trying to justify if you would notice a 25hp increase on such a big motor.

It doesn't matter what type of car I have I always liked to squeek every bit of power I can get. That's just me wether it was my Lexus is-f or E55.
