Winter Tire Question (225/50/17)

Hi,, am getting a E350 4matic soon... wondering if anybody had idea if 225/50/17 can fit the E350 ? I aware MB recommend 245/45/17, it looks the size is very close. the car will come with 245/40/18 all-seasons.

I have 4 of those Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 and used for 1 season only, so feel I should re-use before I go and spent more...

I plan to buy a new set of MB 17" wheel for that.

You won't be able to mount that smaller tire on your existing rims...

I would recommend that you keep the same tire size that comes with the car.

You can try the following to confirm for yourself...
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

You will notice that the overall diameter is very close, so you CAN install these providing that your reference to 245/45/17 is correct.
The 225 vs the 245 will give you better bite through snow.
