Outside mirrors do not fold

Went to a touchless car wash, and was looking for a button to fold the mirrors, MB forgot to install it in my car.
First disappointment since I got the car.

If you are in the US the mirrors do not fold. Believe the Euro models do. MB did not forget them they are not part of the US package. However my ML550 mirrors do fold.

I think he's being sarcastic haha why would you think the W212s are cheaper than W211s? MBUSA dropped quite a few standard features in the W212 in order to make it cheaper

Nonetheless, if I remembered correctly, the E class in US never has PF mirrors as an option. I loved my retro-fit in my W210 Its awesome especially in the garage.

Well I am relieved to know that MB did not forget to install them in MY car.
However I am still disappointed, I think the Trabant used to have them. (Sarcastic)

My Canadian Sedan (w212) has folding mirrors.

Yul550, you should consider posting to the more relevant COUPE forum (C207).

What was dropped from the 212 that was on the 211 to make it cheaper?

the w204 C class had it as an option when it first came out, but i think they took it out as well for the 2010 models.

I understand cutting certain features to keep costs down. However, what about keeping these options open for the US customers that would want to have these features a la carte? I wouldn't mind waiting either...especially the designo configuator on MB Deutschland! Their options are off the chain!

From what I see nothing was dropped from the last year of the W211 to the W212, in fact some things were added in the 212. As so far as the mirror fold is concerned US E Classes never had them. The tilt down pass side mirror was not in the later W211's and its back in the 212. My 211 was an 05 and 2 things I liked had been dropped in later 211's they being the key recognition and the easy exit seat movement. These are still not in the 212 but were dropped prior to the 212.

East Exit/Easy Entry is on the 2010 E350 (Page 92 & 145 of the Manual). On my E350 the function was not available by default and I had to set the system to use it. Also the mirrors do fold but, you have to do it manually.

Yes but on the W212 the easy exit is just the steering wheel moving up. On my W211 it had the seat moving back also which to me is more important than the wheel. As for the mirrors of course they fold manually, most all cars have these. What is being talked about here is the electrical folding and the "auto" fold when the car is locked. My ML550 does this and I believe the Euro W212's also.

Yes, I knew that about the mirrors which is why I stated manually. I did find a "work around" for the seat moving with easy exit - albeit a time consuming way - which is to set another "automatic" setting (say #3) that would put the seat and steering wheel where one would want it for exit -probably useless for most.

A "work around" should not be necessary. If the memory button was one wher it need not be held in the depressed position until the seat stops then it may work, but this is not the case. The key recognition was also a very nice feature that went away. My E is driven mostly by my wife and with the key recognition the seat wheel and mirrors automatically went into the correct position for either of us when we got into the car....no more. The new ML550 that I recently acquired also does not have the full easy exit as did the 06 ML500 I traded. However the ML never had key recognition. This is my 3rd E and my 4th ML and there has been no consistancy of features in any of them.

Have had cars with easy exit/entry and only the steering wheel moved up. Also had a car with power folding mirrors, but manufacturer deleted on later models. Almost never used them and only then, just because I could. Also, the W-212 mirrors do not stand out as much. Perhaps power folding is needed more in Europe because of tighter clearances, especially parking?
While a lot of people like the power folding mirrors and seats going back, probably not enough to continue making them for USA. As with any power feature, these are more motors, computer chips, etc. that can go bad.

I used and liked the seat movement very much. As far as the mirrors go I use them all the time on my ML550 particularly when its in my garage as it makes it very easy to walk between the cars. If you feel that the maint/failure risk is that great you are driving the wrong car and should be driving a Ford Escourt bare bones or such. I in fact have never had an issue with any of these features in any car. Many still have these features.

I am not shooting at anyone, just expressing my feelings. One of the reasons that people buy MB's is the features and what he said was as silly as a poster once said that he would not use many of the features as he was afraid they might break!

does anyone know if I can order the folding mirror parts for my US E350? I have a smaller garage and my e350 barely fits next to my wife's Lexus RX450h.
Any Ideas?

Sorry but MB does not seem to permit ordering "special" equipment even if it exists for other markets. I tried several times for a couple of things that are available in Europe and was turned down flat. They were not for this W212 but for other MB's that I have owned.

GLK350 sold in US has power folding mirrors and GLK's mirror is same to W212 and face-lifted W204. But, I'm not sure that mounting area to door is same. Power folding part inside GLK350's mirror may fit W212 mirrors. We need volunteer...
