Spontaneous Unmute

My E550 will occasionally spontaneously unmute the audio without me hitting the mute/unmute button. This has happened several times and only on hot days.

Has anyone else experienced this or know a possible cause?

Happens once in a while (it's not hot days; I live in a cool Mediterranean climate right next to the ocean.) I have a 2009 W211 with the latest W212 COMAND system. My guess is it's associated with the steering wheel buttons. It's not enough of an issue, imho, to warrant any real trouble shooting since it happens only rarely.

(p.s., if left in mute, and then you restart the car, it can sometimes override the mute.)

Happened to me today for the first time. 75-degrees F. Happened with the following sequence: Daddy's CD playing while waiting for daughter to exit school; see daughter and her teacher; hit mute; bring up CD changer to change to daughter's favorite CD; after it loaded, it unmuted itself and began playing daughter's CD.

Do you maybe have the CD player going while on mute? It might be unmuting itself when it changes to a new CD. Or it might be something similar in the other modes.

fwiw, it will unmute when you change anything in audio (as you did with the cd changer); radio stations, etc.. That's normal.

Same problem here...350E 4Matic, Sport w/P2. I have owned the car for 1 month. Initially I thought I was bumping the steering wheel controls. Happened, when the door closed, once, but seems to happen more often when the steering wheel is turned sharply.

And then it happens sometimes when I'm just sitting in the car, with it in Park. A guess..and only a guess, would be the problem exists in the steering wheel control unit.

I would like to be able to turn off the radio completely, but that defeats the whole Command System!

I think its time to call the dealership!

Oh..one more thing. In my case the weather doesn't seem to be the issue. Cold or hot damp or dry, it dosen't matter. We're into Spring, and the weather changes here dramatically.

I'm going to check with my dealer to see if I got the "Christine" option!
