Buying used W212 vs. W211

Buying used W212 vs. W211

Figured this maybe biased since it's the W212 board but...seems like the price of used 2010's are not much more than 2009's. Given the model change I figured the 2009 would depreciate more. Have they de-contented the W212 so they start lower?

Wondering about the merits of buying an older generation body style vs. newer. I think the E550 is the way to go as mileage is within a few mpg as the E350. Problem is lot's of E350 w/ 321 sport package but very few E550 came with the AMG sport package, at least in the W211.

Wondering how people like the W212 vs. W211 - quality of materials used, handling and ride quality, build quality, etc.

While I loved my 05 W211 4M and the fact that the car was bullet proof for me the W212 is superior. More comfortable better ride and handling. It actually from what I see has more stuff standard and in the P2 package. The only things that were decontented and these occurred in later w211's than my 05 were the key recognition and the easy exit seat movement. Either would be a good choice but I would go for the W212. There can't be very many used ones to choose from at this point.

This has been debated. Once you sit in and look at both, you'll know which you like better, as they're that different, although the overall feeling and driving experience is familiar, with the new one obviously feeling advanced in that area.

People have different beliefs as to why the 212 is priced so much lower. Personally, for all the advancements, I've found areas of the 212 to use cheaper materials than the 211, which makes me believe that there were certain areas cost cut, to allow for a lower price. Seems many owners aren't bothered by, or don't really notice though.

New VS Old body style is personal, obviously as the 212 gets more common, the 211 becomes more commonly "the old one", and some people care, some don't. I feel, a clean 211 will look good and timeless for at least the full run of the 212.

I'm gonna be in the market soon. Right now it seems for a similar price you can find a slightly Used or New E350, an '07 S550, and '07 E63 for roughly the same price. For M-B, that's where I'll be looking.

It's like going to baskin robins and asking "what's your best flavor of ice cream." Both are great cars but the resale should hold stronger on the w212 since it's their new body.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. 2010 E will depreciate far less than a 2009 E, as they are similarly priced right now (essentially), yet old body's always get hit a bit when new body's come out.
