Angry Windshield Replacement

Windshield got hit by rock on highway on my 07 E550, too big to repair will need to replace entire windshield. Any experience out there on OE windshield vs. aftermarket? Is MB dealership only one who can replace with OE?

Thanks

Get OEM, have your insurance pay for it. A good body shop will have a good glass contractor they work with, no need to do it at the stealership.

OEM will be the correct MB vendor and will be marked accordingly. Will help when resale happens (if you own the car; if you lease it's possible you may actually have to use OEM.) After the install get the current Daimler product sticker that goes on the left side, you can get them for $6 at the dealer. Then all will be just like new.....

Go OEM. don't even bother with aftermarket. it's not even that expensive, should be between 450 to 500 even if its the blue or green film. How much cheaper will aftermarket be. Besides you have to get one compatible with rain sensor.

You should see how much it costs to replace a windshield on a S/CL. We have an 02 CL500. Replacement cost: $1800 (installed)

Called Safelite to repair small crack on my 2011 E350 4matic. Could still see small highlight after repair when driving in sunlight. Contacted Safelite customer service. They took care of the insurance claim without any hassles for me, and replaced windshield with OEM in my garage. They sourced the new windshield from Mercedes. Exactly same spec. Transferred sticker. Couldn't be happier.

I had the same issue a few months back.
I went OEM and am glad I did. As I recall it was a negligible price increase over aftermarket.

One interesting change from my original windshield is that there are now deforster bars in front of the distronic camera.

New factory for W212 ranges from $1100-1500.
Lane Departure and Distronic + version cost the most.
