OEM Wheels question

Does anyone know what the exact width of both the 5-Spoke 18's on the 212, and multi-spoke AMG 18's are. Are they the same?

Also, any differences in construction/build quality, i.e, forged, different material, etc.?

I will say, although I don't like the look of the 6-Spoke AMG's, and much prefer the clean Standard 5-Spokes, when I was cleaning my wheels yesterday, I noticed they don't feel as incredibly strong and thick as the AMG Wheels I had on my W211. Not sure if it's in my head, or if the AMG wheels are built to a higher standard.

Also, I can't seem to find width figures anywhere.

Thanks.

Check and compare the tire sizes. I think they are the same.

Thanks.
The flat 5 spoke wheels (code R96) are 8.5" wide; the AMG twin 5 spoke 18" wheels (code 791) are 8.5" front and 9.0" rear for RWD models (4Matic have 8.5" front and rear). The 791 AMG wheels will be optional on the Canadian MY2011 E350 Bluetec and standard on the MY2011 E550. The AMG twin 6 spoke wheels are being replaced by the AMG twin 5 spoke wheels (code 791) for MY2011. I think this change will make for a simpler and even better looking wheel.

As for any differences in construction and weight, suggest you ask a MB tech.

Thanks ^^. So 2011's are getting the E63 Replica's (twin 5-Spokes), and doing away with the AMG twin 6-Spokes? That would be a very nice come-up for anyone waiting for an '11 model.

I was actually curious about the width between the current flat 5-Spokes and the current AMG "Wheels Package" Twin 6-Spokes in the rear, I'm assuming those are both 8.5"?

2WD sport models have staggered wheels. 18x8.5 front and 18x9 rear for both standard and AMG wheels. 4matic versions have non-staggered 18x8.5s all around. Congrats on the new car.

The E350 Bluetec Sport for the Canadian market, being RWD, will also have a staggered set-up with 18" wheels.

They are both a cast wheel. The only forged wheel available (currently) on the E-Class is the 19" twin 5-spoke on the E63.

Here are the details on the 18" 5-spoke E-Class wheels:

45.7-cm (18"), 5-spoke design (Code R32)

with mixed-size tyres front 245/40 R18 on 8.5 J x 18 ET 48
rear 265/35 R18 on 9 J x 18 ET 54
Standard -
Optional all engine versions*

* in conjunction with 4MATIC: 245/40 R18 on
8.5 J x 18 ET 48 all-round (Code R96)

The 6-spoke AMG wheels:

45.7-cm (18") AMG, twin-spoke design (786)

with mixed-size tyres front 245/40 R18 on 8.5 J x 18 ET 48
rear 265/35 R18 on 9 J x 18 ET 54
Standard AMG Sports package
Optional all engine versions*

* in conjunction with 4MATIC: 245/40 R18 on
8.5 J x 18 ET 48 all-round (Code 781)

The 5-spoke AMG wheels (for MY11):

AMG 45.7 cm (18") light-alloy wheels in five-twin-spoke design (791)

front 245/40 R18 on 8.5 J x 18 ET 48
rear 245/40 R18 on 8.5 J x 18 ET 48
Standard -
Optional Engine variants with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive
not in conj. with Exterior Sports package

AMG 45.7 cm (18") light-alloy wheels in five-twin-spoke design (795)

Does anyone have pictures of the new 2011 5-twin-spoke cast design?

Is it these?

I don't want to get off topic here but 5 spoke AMG wheels on an E 350 seems ridiculous to me. It's like wearing sneakers with a suit IMO. I felt the same way when Porsche Cayman owners put 997 twin turbo wheels on their cars. My 2cents.

To each his own. I think the look of the AMG cars on an E550 4matic with the airmatic ride is the best of all worlds.

As for the wheel details, I like the two-tone look of the real forged AMG 5-twin-spoke 19"s. Those cast 18" 5-twin-spokes arn't as sleek and they don't carry the 2-tone. I think I prefer the 18" 6-twin-spoke.
