Fan blowing after shut down

Took delivery of a 2010 E-350 sedan a few months ago and recently noticed when I park it for the night in the garage, there is a fan blowing on the passenger side at the base of the windshield and hood . Open either front door and the fan stops blowing. Garage is very warm, so is a fan activated for cooling purposes? What is it and is it normal? This is my first Mercedes so any input would be appreciated.

Fans running on cars after they're shut off is normal. Happens all the time, especially on Mercedes' if they've been running hard in hot weather. The location of the fan you're talking however, is most likely for the comand system. They get very hot.

Germancar 1: Thank you for your quick response. It is greatly appreciated. I live in central Florida and the garage becomes very warm this time of the year. Garage doors face west, thus allowing much heat to build up within the garage this time of the year. The fan bothered me so much that I have been opening the door to shut it down, but now knowing it is to cool the Command system will ignore and simply let it continue. Great site and appreciate all the information I am gaining by simply reading various posts.

Thanks again

That's funny. I just noticed that fan sound just a few days ago while it was parked in the garage and figured that no one would know what I was talking about. Now I can relax knowing that at least one car besides mine does it too.

If you are talking about the heater fan and if it happens only some time after the car had been parked (I think it was half an hour), this is intended to dry up the heater core to avoid mould creating bad smell from the AC system. I believe this was introduced for a W204 and a W212 does the same now. Not sure about cars like the face lift W221.

There is a consequence that owner often complain about, the moisture escaping from the heater core can make windows foggy, depending on the humidity and temperature at the garage. Nothing serious.

Yep, that could be it also. With a Benz it could be anything. They're full of little engineering details/solutions.

Are the A/C compressors still as loud as a buzzsaw from the outside on these new W212 E-Classes?
