Bringing an American E550 to Canada

I am wondering if anyone has purchased an E550 (or E63) in the States and brought it up to Canada?
I am curious if you had any problems getting the vehicle inspected or registered in Canada or if you had to have any major work done to comply with our regulations.

There will be legal issues with Mercedes Benz. You sign an agreement not to export the car for a period of time (6 months if memory serves me) when you take delivery of the vehicle.

Suggest you go to MB Canada's website and under New Cars, read "Why you should buy your Mercedes-benz in Canada".

Yes, up front, you would save a few thousand dollars buying in the US.

However, the costs of modifications to comply with Canadian requirements, customs clearance, and re-inspection and the reduced coverage for warranties makes a US purchase far less attractive for a Canadian buyer than it would first appear. The resale of a US sourced car in Canada would also be reduced compared to a similar Canadian version due to the unavailable Extended warranty or a Star Certified warranty.

And most importantly there is 6% duty over and above all our taxes. At first look the US cars appear much cheaper but they have much less content. Car for car plus exchange plus duty plus fees plus mods you are better off staying home. US built MB's are duty free but then you are limited to the R,ML GL. Furthermore no one will sell you a new car for export.
