It's obviously in part due to the insane discounts straight from the Dealer.
My buy-out at the end of the Lease is $32K, which appeared to be a great deal, as the W211's had higher buyouts even after the W212's came out.
Now it ain't looking to be such a good deal, lol.
So much for M-B *Claiming* that the W212 would have the "Best Resale Value Of Any Car" before it even came out, lol.
My dealer told me that when I was looking to buy an E 350. I bought a 2010 and got just over 20% off the MSRP. Took delivery on August 30th. He quoted me a 2011 with a MSRP of around $58,000 for $52,200. I bought the 2010 instead for $45,000. I bought a 4Matic because we get snow in the winter. Good luck this is a beautiful car. Try closer to the end of the month, you may be surprised.

Getting toward the end of the 2010 model run saved you guys maaaaaajor $$$$.
I got my 2010 right before June, so I still payed "non giveaway" pricing, yet if I would have waited 2 months, I would have gotten said discounts. I did okay with what I was working with, but this shows you what patience can get you! I knew that was the case when I bought it though, and accepted it of course.
One thing to remember is, IF you were looking to buy the car after the Lease (seems to be a rarity), then getting that discount off the 2010's toward the end of their Production Run will probably equal the added depreciation you'll be dealing with, considering the 2011's had already come out.

got $6900 off MSRP on a 2011 E350 in April 2011, middle of the month
MSRP was $60360 or so
...
yes, that's not a mistake in the price
yes, that's high for a E350 ... not E550 and not 4matic
but it does have the designo magno platinum matte paint package ($3900 option)
+ p1 + sports + panoramic roof + rear deck spoiler
so $6900 off msrp on a rare color option + 3.9% financing for 66 months
probably could have done slightly better on the price but probably not by much ... was pushing for $7200 off but just let it go
FYI - there was extra discount for the "conquest" incentive for switching over from Lexus
