There are two different subscriptions..one for real time traffic and another for radio itself. When you call to Sirius - they want you to subscribe to both of them. If you don't need a Radio - just ask them for Real time traffic update only. About $80 for 2 years.

yeap! i felt so naked when my traffic disappeared. i felt like my GPS was useless! I had some to depend on it so much.
FYI, there is different technology that runs the traffic. Acura and BMW uses the free radio broadcasts, only bad thing about that is radio stations only send them out every 30 minutes. With Sirus it's instantaneous. But you have to pay for it
fwiw, in addition to Sirius live traffic, you get enhanced traffic and/or operator delivered traffic if you have Teleaid. Just hit the 'i' button. It's also instant and immediately up-to-date.
the acura system gets much, much less info too. driving in nyc area I use this daily and it saves me loads of time. Its not always accurate but is pretty good.
