It's Here!

Hey guys,

My 2011 E350 has finally arrived. I ordered on 08/13 and it's being delivered tomorrow.

Here's the specs:

E350 Luxury
Paladium Silver
Black Leather
Burl Walnut
Premium 2
Parktronic
Split Folding Rear Seats
Rear Side Airbags
Driver Assistance Package
Drive Dynamic Multicontour Driver Seat

I didn't get the Panoramic Roof because I plan on keeping the car for a long time and I wanted to avoid squeaks and rattles long-term. I thought about it a lot and decided that, for me, it was the right choice and I was willing to live without it.

I have a question for the veterans. I ordered the car from Laguna Nigel (about, I don't know... 120 miles away? I'm in San Diego.) I realize this might not be a great thing because I would have to have a local dealership to service my car, and it wouldn't be the dealership I actually *bought* the car from. I'm a little worried about this, but is this a problem? I was thinking I would establish a relationship with a local dealership... maybe by buying the maintenance plan or extended warranty, or both, from one of the dealers in San Diego. Any thoughts on this?

Anyway, I'm REALLY excited about getting my car tomorrow. More excited than you know! LOL. I'll have to post pictures once I get it.

Congrats. You can take your car wherever you want. I don't think it's realistic that a Dealer would treat you differently because you didn't buy your car from them.

I've actually had one dealer tell me they couldn't give me a free loaner because I didn't buy the car from them. They said it was their "policy." They charged me $12 a day.

That's ridiculous. I would have assumed that the two aren't/shouldn't be connected.

I guess it's pretty obvious why you didn't buy the car from them in the first place! I wonder what MB would say about that if you complained...

Actually, if your car was produced in early October, you did get a speedy production date when you ordered on Sept 6. Production finished to transit delivery at the dealer can take about 3 weeks or more.

Yikes. Why put that kind of money down on a new car order? It's 60k tied up for several months (and more) that you have no access to. It's giving somebody else a big chunk of change interest free. It makes no sense.

At least it makes no sense to me. I guess you have your reasons.

Have you ever thought that some people may have a lot of cash on their accounts ?

I have plenty of cash. I paid cash for my AMG. But at the time of purchase, not before. I wouldn't give it to a dealer to play with for several months. What's the point?

Yeah, I wouldn't either. What if the Dealer went BK? I dunno. Everyone's got their reasons, but we all can use some good advice sometimes.

Now, if someone has so much cash, it's driving them so crazy, they just gotta get it out of their Bank Accounts, by all means, I am willing to do you a favor.... if you pull my arm enough.

This is a big no no. Just a basic rule of business, a deposit to bind the agreement(not to exceed 10%) and the balance on delivery. With the frequency of bank closings that we see in this economy now is not the time to make unsecured deposits with, of all people , car dealers. Yes I know the vast majority of dealers are very solvent and honest but just ask any former GM bond holder how much deposit he would put down on his factory order. It's simply common sense. Don't put out what you don't have to because eventually someone, somewhere will get you as sure as god made little green apples.

I've had this happen before at Calstar I believe. They weren't even giving an MB loaner. I just stopped going there all together (it's not like their service was great anyways) and now go to other dealers that actually give MB loaners at no charge.

One of the reasons I Leased is because I didn't even want to have $30K or so (what I would have put down on a Finance) tied up into a car. I know it doesn't make much sense, as Leasing in the long run will cost me more (especially if I bought the car out, by a big margin), but it's the piece of mind, of having your cash as "close" as possible to you. "Mind" is used very literally, as that's all that's really benefiting from such an action. We all know that some Banks might not be the safest either (much safer than anywhere else though).

Guys, I am pretty sure he hasn't plunked down the $60K hyperion is mentioning. I think he means that he is paying for the car in cash so they were trying to do him a favor. At least I hope that is what he meant.

My question to you guys is, doesn't all MB's come from Germany? They are supposed to right?

Yeah, except for the SUV's, and soon to be, many of the C-Classes (there might be others).

Personally, I'll never buy an M-B that's not built in Germany. Sure a lot of it is in my head, but it just isn't the same, I don't care about whether or not there are any quality differences.

If I want a car built in the U.S, I'm gonna buy a U.S car.

They hate cash. There's no profit in cash. I almost lost my deal last year when I said I was paying cash (which I never said until the last minute; they just assumed I was going to finance it and then they tried to kill the deal.)

Anyway I hope he didn't put any money anywhere until he actually gets the car.

All the E Class that are exported to the US are still made in Sindelfingen. Including the C-Class saloon, S, CL and CLS Class, the SLS AMG and Maybach.

As K-A says all the M, R, and GL-Class worldwide are made in Alabama.

Daimler AG has facilities all over the place. http://www.daimler.com/company/daimler-worldwide

I think what they were trying to say is that you could be making money with a big chunk of cash like that during the 2 months or so while you wait for your car. But I'm guessing if you have that kind of disposable income you probably don't care about that.

Me, I'm chained to a car payment, probably for life!

Do you really think you are an exception because you paid cash for your car? It's actually fairly common. We were just pointing out that to put more than the minimum deposit when ordering a car is not a good business practice.
By the way when you become a big boy you won't find it as important to tell us how you paid for your car.
As far as leasing goes, for many people it is just a convenient way to do their business, not because they couldn't pay cash for the car. A lot of big dogs lease their cars and you know what dogs do to big wheels.....Sometimes a little humility can save a big embarrassment.
