I went through the same thing when I got, annoying as hell. Asked service and they said that it defaults to E and there is no way to change it (I'm sure there is, but they didn't share). The reason for it is so that they can claim the higher MPG rating on the window sticker.

My car remains warm all the time. Its nice in the winter but a pain when its parked outside in summer. The control knob gets so hot that I cant even touch it until car cools off on AC. I DONT have PANA roof.
Do I need to mess with my settings or something?

Very confusing
It truly is the oddest thing on the car. Bad placement...and to turn it on you pull it toward you? Maybe it's only me, but I would have designed it to be activated when you push it away (towards the direction you are going).
Go forward...duh...(maybe it's just me). Pull it back to you...off.

Let me add another "surprise" to this car....
How incredibly well of a highway cruiser it is.... And yes, we all know a Benz E-Clas is historically an ultimate highway cruiser.... But DAMN, this one is so good, it just surprised me.
I've been taking it on some long driving trips lately, and it's like cruising in a luxurious and cozy living room, that's got the sporty confidence of handling any realistic weather or situations thrown at it, and feels like it's made of granite to boot. Just the ultimate cruiser with different characters present whenever you'd need to, or like to use them. I think the best term to describe the car is "confidence".
And after driving a 4 Cyl Chevy for many of these long distance drives, the 3.5 feels like a rocket, lol.

Also, to add: QUIET. Love that about it.
This is why!
Petee: Yeah, I take it on the long work drives when need be. I've been driving the Benz more though lately, and through our "rougher" weather lately, it's been great. I just don't want to "beat it up" (my primary car is required to be pristine), but with a shiny wax, and keeping distance from cars ahead of me, it makes it back as pristine as when it left.
The Malibu is great though, and being that I own it outright, I figure it's good to keep it around.

Google M-B's new "Magic Sky Control" debuting in the upcoming SLK (then across the board I'm sure in due time). Seems to be something like what you're saying, if not exactly. Too bad it's such a stupid name, especially from a respectable brand like M-B.... Sounds like something McDonalds would use as a name.

1) Wish I could pause/ stop ipod playback when attached so I can stream Pandora.
2) Nav POI seems useless, doesn't even begin search in hometown/ present location. iphone more useful.
3) Downloaded my contact phone numbers from iphone, why not addresses too so I can nav to them.
Minor complaints, love the car! Just replaced Lexus GS, big upgrade imo.

Can someone tell me what the tab in front of the cup holder is for. It has arrows on both sides and you can push it up and pull it down. I wouldn't know where to start looking for it in the manual.
I post it here because it might become a big "surprise" for me. lol.

Yes it is the launch of what I'm talking about. This system or technology is in it's infancy (in the automotive industry) and will continue to grow to the point we will no longer use tint on our windows, at least not with this feature. The darkness of the glass will be controlled with a dial on the dash. This will start with suroofs and eventually move to back windows then side glass as costs reduce and technology improves.
