The E350 BlueTEC is everything you'd get in an E350 but with gobs more torque and great fuel economy (obviously). The 3.0L is very quiet, inside the cabin you can barely tell you're in a diesel. Its the same engine you have in your ML so you know how about the inevitable turbo lag.
If one doesn't need 4MATIC and diesel fuel is readily available in your area, I don't know what the compelling argument would be to choose the gasoline variant. The E BlueTEC is truly great to drive.

I have had the E350 BlueTec for about 2 weeks and I absolutely love this car. I average 30 mpg city and 42 highway so far and this car is not even broke in yet. I have always owned mb. Only down side I can see so far is that the car has run flat tires as the ad blue tank is located where the spare tire would be. I have never had the run flats before but cannot tell any difference in the ride.

Run flats are usually noisy and accompany more vibrations thats transferred into the cabin due to the rubber compound used to make this.

Thnx, sent my salesman an email to check Monday morning. My guess is that they didn't get it done. Fortunately for me they have to pick the car up next week for the rear spoiler install and can do it then.

2012 S350 Bluetec 4Matic, Diamond White, P2
I simply love my Bluetec. For the type of driving I do (mostly below 4K RPM, it gives me the "massive torque sensation" of the E550 with the fuel economy of a Honda Fit. I regularly average above 33 mpg in combined city/hwy. I see about 40 mpg on all hwy driving, and the worst I have seen so far is 23 mpg in mostly city. I was concerned about the cost of the AdBlue service, but have been adding AdBlue purchase from VW (it has the MB Part Number) and for the first 5000 miles I consumed just over 2 gallons of AdBlue..(about $32.I am not crazy about the Run Flat tires (Bridgestone Turanzas) and will likely go with a regular tire when these wear out. I have the Luxury with P1 package and preferred it to the Sport. I prefer the fog lights and round DRLs to the hockey-stick LEDs (just a personal preference.) I also like the additional chrome trim on the rear bumper that ties the chrome trim on the lower part of the doors to the back of the car. (I wish they left the lower door chrome trim off of the Sport edition). I also Like the 4 slot grill on the Luxury edition. The only other option I have are the folding rear seats and the wood/leather steering wheel. The car has bee virtually trouble free, but there are a couple things I will have adjusted when I go in for the 1st oil change at 10k miles.
I find that the rock solid power delivery of the diesel just seems to fit this car. It feels strong, unstoppable, and really unbreakable. This is not my first diesel, but, it is a very good effort. Mercedes claims 6.7 seconds 0-60 (even says it on the window sticker), but, I have only seen reviews that have it at 7.2 or 7.5 seconds 0-60. Seems odd that Mercedes, who is usually conservative in such estimates, is off by so much. I can tell you that it certainly "feels" faster than a low to mid 7 second 0-60 time. In fact, it feels faster than the gas E350.
When first started cold, there is a slight, but noticeable vibration from the diesel. I have experienced this in every diesel I have ever driven. When warmed up however, this engine is as smooth as anything out there. Once one gets used to "driving the torque" of a diesel powered car, the locomotive-like power is quite addictive. Passing on the highway is truly effortless with the 400 ft.-lbs. of torque.
If the 5 had been out with the diesel, it would have been a tougher decision. I found the 335d just too small for my needs (especially the rear seat accommodations.) I do find the front of the new 5 series a bit "cramped" feeling in the front...not uncomfortable but noticeably tighter than the E. Not sure why the center console is so wide int the 5 but I found my right leg always in contact with the center. For me the, the E was just right, and, there is no comparable vehicle available in the US. I wish Audi, BMW, VW, Volvo, and SAAB would send us more of their incredible diesels.

Just bought my 1st 2011 E350 Bluetec after owning 5 E class gasoline engine cars, in a row and so far very happy. Only put 1220 miles on her but aside from a mildly different cabin noise, she is smooth on the highway, plenty of power, 38+ on 1st 2 tanks of fuel. A bit harder ride on secondary town roads due to run flats, I'm sure. Any one know how to open trunk clips to hold down cargo net rings? This clips are different then past model hold down clamps.

I am interested in Bluetec engine as well .However, Adblue is what concerns me about it , I have seen that one in X166 GL's just by the fuel cap

The AdBlue is no biggie at all. The tank holds enough to go more than 10,000 miles, so if you let your dealer fill it at the oil change, you'll never even know it's there.
I fill mine myself, a $15 jug should get you from oil change to oil change, and prevents the dealer from charging you $100+ for the fill.

I have had My 2011 E350 Bluetec since 2-2013 and have now put almost 7,000 miles on her. She is solid, fits me like a glove, handles well, if not like a sports car and has all the bells and whistles I need. I bought this car because of its truly beautiful lines. The car is a typical Mercedes---solid, airtight, good fit and finish. I think Mercedes builds solid, well designed cars and this model is a very respectable entrant in the mid-size luxury sedan category. I have owned five Mercedes C & E Class cars since 1973. Subtle cut backs on quality, trying to keep the cost down, did not distract from the overall performance. The ride, handling and performance are still first class, making the car a good value for the money. This is my 1st diesel and I'll admit to the 1st 3 hundred miles were a learning experience, however I truly expect to get my normal 200K or better on her. 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel engine, RWD, 7-speed Automatic transmission and she gets 7 to 9 MPG better then I saw in town and on the high way in my 1998 E320 or my 2006 E350 Gas model. A happy start to this M/B Bluetec adventure.

With BlueTec, what you see is what it is! The car is built with pocket book in mind. I love the baby into 2nd year ownership with 2012. Mileage? Of course, about 40 miles to a gallon on highway!

No worries about the cost of refilling the adBlue
Buy one of these from dealer: ($20-30)
and refill the bottle it with this ($15)

I've got a 2012 with just about every available option. I didn't think I would like the drive dynamic seat but I love it. LOVE IT. On longer trips. press a button and I'm getting a Shiatzu massage.
Plenty of smooth power, comfortable seats, good sound (H/K) right size for me, great mileage. I'm right at 33mpg overall since new. 38hwy around 30 city.
Ad blue is everywhere. I don't even use the MB fill bottle, just the tube from the Walmart purchased 2.5gal DEF. Just do it by sound. No need to fill to the top. If you spill a few drops just wipe off with a damp cloth.
I liked the diesel so much just got one fo the first GLK BlueTech's for the wife. Perfect engine for a small, heavy SUV.
