This is a tough pill to swallow, IMO

The car is 10 months old and MB wants $249 to update the maps in the navigation system.

What is the true price of the navigation if there is an up-charge of $249 each time there is an update.

That's what the update DVD costs. You can buy them direct from NAVTEQ. http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...gationMenu=YES

But why are you wanting to update already? Kind of a waste, imho. Wait a few years.

I received the update letter in the mail and although I'm not updating now, I thought the pricing was high.

Can the DVD be used by a number of owners or are there restrictions on the DVD or purchase agreement.

Also, for those just purchasing a new CAR Now do they get the updated Navi or the out of date Navi maps.

I never purchased the upgrade map for my 2008 S550 which I drove a little over two years. Never had an issue with the maps. I did purchase an update for my 2005 CLK500 Cabriolet after it was four years old. I did not, however, purchase it from MB. I got it on ebay, and it was a sealed factory current version for less than $100.

So, yes, the MB price is too high.

For how long after the vehicle is first put in service will MB provide a "no cost" update to the map?
I have a car that was put in to service in July of this year and the map does not include roads that have been operational around my hometown for over a year now!
Any advice?

total ripoff in my opinion. I can buy updates for my other system at a fraction of that price and they both carry the same info.
