New Car Gifts?

Every new car I have purchased in the past, the dealer has provided some small gift - key chain, glove-box flashlight, logo polo shirt, baseball cap, stainless travel coffee mug, etc. BMW gave me a beautiful carbon fiber ballpoint pen.

I picked up a new 2011 E350 last week from Mercedes of Westwood (MA). The transaction was nice and professional - but no gifts.

What has been your Mercedes experience?

When you don't get a gift it is a good thing. Most dealers give gifts to people who got hosed on their deal aka overpaid for the car. MB of Westwood is a great dealership and they don't give out gifts is because they give you a rock bottom price unlike Herb Chambers where you pay more but they will schmooze you like you are their best friend but in reality it is because they made a lot of money from you. Be glad you didn't get a gift. I never do get gifts because I get the best deal. For example my MB 350 was MSRP'd at 63,2xx and I ended paying 48,4xx.

Right before I was to take delivery of my pre-ordered E550, the sales lady knew I had bought new rims for my car. They offered as a token of appreciation for my purchase to buy me new tires for my 19" rims as well as mounting and balancing them for me. This was several months after I placed my order, so it wasn't to make the sale. I thought man, what a cool deal.

Yes, we usually receive a small thank you gift. Key chains with fob, blankets, fruit basket, coffee mugs, etc, etc. Sometimes these are received at delivery and sometimes months after.

Everyone that buys a MB gets "hosed" aka "overpaid for the car."
Thats the whole point of buying MB... Because you can!

You're telling me that the dealer paid for 4 new tires plus mounting and balancing? I'm assuming you pay MSRP for your cars.

Same here, however no gift at all for previous Benz. This gift came also from MBUSA, not from a dealer. So it looks like time to change former.

BTW no use for gift card since no this store in my area.

I think a simple token like the ones mentioned are good for the relationship and don't necessarily indicate that you got "hosed."

(Still wating to know the full story with RNBRAD.)

I'll keep checking my mail...

Can't you redeem it with an internet/phone purchase?

If not, re-gift it for the holidays.

In 08 when I got my 211 I got a box of chocolates in the mail from MBUSA not my dealer. In May when I picked up my 212 I got nothing. The dealers give 2 key chains with the package but thats it and the key chains have their dealership name so its not the nicest. Ive never used any of them, Ive given them away actually. Probably right about the rock bottom price thing. Great price, no gift....

They dropped a grand off it when I paid down on the order. The car went on back order because they only make so many pana roof cars a year and I would have to wait a couple months for the next production cycle to begin. I was not happy with this cause they did not know this at the time of order. They threw in a free set of tires, set of Michelin Pilot sports, mount and balance I assume because of my 5 month wait. They also gave me preferred customer status and 3 free oil changes. Not sure how they select who gets that. Has some nice perks though. I didn't get any pens, mugs, shirts, etc.. Weird thing is they approached me about it. And as for paying MSRP, you have a better chance of getting a better deal with something on the lot than a custom order, especially on the E550 at the time. A few grand one way or another wouldn't change my decision. If I'm buying a Benz and spending that kind of money, it's going to be exactly how I want it whether I had to pay MSRP or not. If I'm worried about not paying MSRP, I'd be driving a chevy.

You are the perfect customer for any MB dealer.

Well I'm not one of those customers that essentially haggle over a few grand one way or another on a brand new model that's also a custom order. If you understand the situation, the ball is not in my corner to be haggling over the price. You have to realize I ordered my 550 October of last year. The 550 pano was rare, I purchased the 1st one in my state. I could see haggling over the price on a P1 E350 currently on the lot, especially now. Probably get a good deal compared to one a few weeks post release. That's just the nature of the beast on how you buy the car.

Not much

Dealership gave me two nice key rings with an MB star on one side and their toll free and MBUSA Roadside Assistance numbers on other side.
Other than that nothing.
Biggest disappointment has been in MBUSA/MB. Their hotel certificates are not at places I am ever going to visit. The $25 gift card to Sak's was useless as the closest one is 150 miles away. Also, lowest priced item of any kind on Sak's website was $50 plus shipping.
In the past got certificates for service or accessories, free touch up paint, etc. Even Hyundai sent me a very nice water bottle just for being on their Think Tank and I don't even own a Hyundai anymore.
Purchased a Toyota 5 years ago and I still get discount coupons for service and accessories.
